im new to this forum and model and skin editing all around, this is my first attempt at useing a custom model i downloaded the crossbow footman witch only came with a model file. I imported the file and added it to a custom unit but when ever placed it showes up as that checkered green and black box. I think its a skin thing since i dont have the skin file and the portrit file but they look like they can use the footman ones the game came with can someone please tell me what i need to do to fix this problem? help a noobie out?

it almost looks like some of the options it shows for the editor i dont have on mine. The "help importing model" link shows a option on the world editor that says "art/modelfile/portrait" and i dont have that option on my object editor

The portrait automatically get's set up if you name it appropriate to the main model. For instance, if the model is named Footman.mdx, the portrait should named Footman_Portrait.mdx.

But for your case, the model has a build-in portrait.
You just need to import the mdx file with the import manager, use a custom path for the model (Just remove the "war3imported\" crap.), save your map. Close and reload it and just set the unit you fancy with that specific model.
