Diablo 2 classic and LoD, a question.

So this is the case; my pal and me have begun playing d2 again, but now we want to play with each other. But since I have an unvalid cd-key (...) I have to go buy D2. The thing is I can only afford d2 classic if I want to have some spare money left this month, and he has LoD.

Does it work playing over battle.net together with me having the classic one and he has LoD?

You can indeed - I've played with D2 only players and I have LoD too.

I just think it doesnt work if he has LoD Items.

Ok, if you're playing a game hosted by Classic Diablo person, then you can't join if you're expansion person.
