how do i do this?

i mean i KNOW how to "artistically" create one,
i KNOW ALSO how to convert & import it properly.

what i dont know are the technical requirements.
what size? what pixels per inch? how do i use alpha channels?
does it have to be rgb-compressed?

Or 1024x1024....
Any square, as long as the sizes can be perfectly divided to 64!
So, the allowed sizes are
64x64
128x128
192x192
256x256
320x320
384x384
448x448
512x512
576x576
640x640
704x704
768x768
832x832
896x896
960x960
1024x104

AND MUCH MORE!

So, it matters what kind of images do you need
if it is multiplayer, i suggest 128x128
if it is singleplayer, i suggest 1024x1024 or larger!

IF you import and use them as .tga they can keep an alpha channel...
and image size(pixels) give disk size(KBs and MBs) too!
and i am not shure about RGB compression...
neither about size... it matters what kind of fade filter do you need...
Multiplayer maps has a size limit... 4 MBs...
Crap limit...
but however...
