I would just suggest that you focus more on the blade, like zooming it in a little.
Else, this is your best icon so far

Can't if i zoom in more, the sword won't show the handle and the top of the blade

I like the sword very much, even if the background is pure black the sword would still look great, I think. I just don't like the background.. backgrounds for weapons should mostly highlight some 'impact', 'BAM!' or simply a fancy glow.. I felt the 'hynotic twirl' (dark colours too.. not so good imho) doesn't look that great.

Zoom-ins are often needed in wc3 icons, since they are so small. You won't be able to get much detail on a sword that small.
Other than that, the icon looks good, but i think the yellow color is wrong in contrast to the blue colors.

Filters doesn't make your backround look ugly it makes it AWESOME just like you said.
