Try to make your outlines less sharp, use small, 1-3px black lines with small transparency instead (something like 15% transp.).
Next to that, i can only recommend to practice the use of shadings, to get yourself used to the proper placing and amount to create a three dimensional shape matching the actual object.
You may take references (however, don't simply trace them, give them an own shape) for the shadings if you need help.
