Most of the objects aren't easily recognizable when shown in extreme close-up, especially if their design is a little unusual.
It's this crossbow's case too - it's quite difficult to render an easily identifiable close-up.

Well made Ghost. However, the angle of the icon is a bit misleading. It is a bit hard to make up what it's supposed to be due to the close look, it is too zoomed in.

i've updated it, but the nature of the crossbow design doesn't really allow for it to look recognisably crossbow-ish without you knowing beforehand what the crossbow looks like. i based this off my model based off wow's "rangari initiate crossbow".

You could try various framing(i.e. - BTNINV_Weapon_Crossbow_02, BTNINV_Weapon_Crossbow_09) and if a satisfactory outcome results, you can add it as variation.
