you do realize the writing on the ring is supposed to be on the outside, NOT the inside?

Um, actually if you read the book its both outside and inside: "As Frodo did so, he now saw fine lines, finer than the finest penstrokes, running along the ring, outside and inside: ...." (Fellowship of the Ring; Ch.2: The Shadow of the Past)

And also, who really cares whether or not its inside or outside, its still a darn good icon.
