No, he is right. There are too many details to tell what's really going on, and the white is too blinding. Also, this might just be my opinion, but the lack of colors makes it seem a bit monotone and dull.

Not fair when you say this lacks colors. And this got a directors cut. Just from using yellow and orange textures to make gold.

Explain why it needs more colors?

Bless icon didn't have an overwhelming horde of small details, plain 3D effect, background and object merging, there were shadows at right places, color variations, and it was pleasing to the eye, not stabbing it.

That's why it got a DC.
