this guy looks good as model, but as icon, I think the glow is just not needed here.
As he is coast/desert like desant, you could place some ligh on him (as reflections of metal) with yellow/orange color. Also he looks a bit blurry here.

the surface isnt meant to be reflective at all. its covered on the surface with fabric to minimise shine and visibility, i supposed. you dont want light reflecting off metal and giving away your position.
the glow. i just did that to fill the space.
anyways updated now. should be a bit more crisper.

The night vision goggles are hard to come by, i would add some more highlights or something too bring it to the viewers eyes that its "Night vision Goggles" Or, you could fix the shape of it and bring it closer towards the objects eyes.
