enjoy: Remove the glow, you can't see the weapon. Your icons always looks like screenshots of some mesh from a 3d program which has just been smoothed alot. You should look at some tutorials, and then you should try to look at http://www.sonsofthestorm.com and see if you can kinda try to make the same kind of style that they do, since they are blizzard artists.

can't see the "blade" ...remove this blue/green glow on the weapon and it will look better. Just use this for the background

Too hard to tell its a weapon, remove some of the "light blue" details on the blade or some in the background in-order to tell this is an axe.

As army and mantis have said, i think the blade/axe looks pretty nice, but the blue fog/sprites/stuff takes over the whole icon, the blade should be the center, not the blue mess. Just create a glow around it instead of all over the place.

Indeed better now, i think you can probably remove all the blue stuff in the background and just keep it black and with the green glow around the blade/axe though.

Yeah, that is better without all the blue stuff. But i think the glow looks a bit flat now without the background, you could probably play around with it a bit. (Layer options - outer glow doesn't look too awesome on its own =))
