Clearly very early days. The fact the trailer has no gameplay...

Still might be something to look forward to. I just hope they do not dumb it down or speed it up too much (it will never compete with SC2 that fulfils that market). I would not mind seeing some kind of revised progression system like that from Age of Empires 3, as long as it is less grindy and makes more sense.

Well Relic has mostly done WW2->Space RTS games, so yeah a WW1 game shouldn't be too much of a difference for them.

Trenches, shocking artillery, poor infantry, shitty tanks, yeah it could fit in with AOE.

it would be nice to make it set during the Renaissance period in europe, for me it's a forgotten period in these games.

A part of Aoe2 the Conquerors (Aztecs) and the begining of Aoe3 (Morgan Black and malta) are set in this period, but a whole game about it would be great!

But WW1 is fine, it could make an amazing game with a great scenario.

If they do 1800 to early 1900 it would be nice if they could do early aircraft as well. I miss airplane combat such as was in games like Empire Earth.

However I would also be happy if they made Age of Empires 4 like a rebooted Age of Empires 1. Sure Age of Empires 1 is getting a HD re-release, but that does not mean the mechanics or gameplay are getting updated. Having each civilization have unique looking units and buildings would be great. However this would overlap with 0A.D.

Because it's proof that a new game is coming out, something a lot of us have been longing for.
Same thing if Blizzard release a trailer like this with Warcraft 4. A lot of people would become really happy.

A few friends of mine were going "OMG AOE 4 TAKE MY MONEY!!!"

While I just look in astonishment.
That trailer tells absolutely nothing about anything, how can you get hyped over this.

Yeah, often enough, people buy the brand, not the game itself. It has led to quite a few disappointments but people never learn.

Since No Man's Sky, I refuse to be hyped by anything.

Yes. Good thing Steam has a money back policy. No Man's Sky was really a turd. I heard it has become much better now, but I have not played it myself.

On AoE4, let's just hope they don't make an abomination like Dawn Of War 3. Let's just have Everything we had in AoE2/3 just in another time period and with some 'better' graphics (I still love the graphics of both games).

Yeah there's always the fear of the companies wanting to give a MOBA approach to their upcoming games, but I guess it won't be the case with AoE4 (if they are still wanting to target the same public who played AoE1/2/3, that is).

True and I think Microsoft with call the right shots on this, but Relic also said the same about DoW3, so watching everything with a pinch of salt is advisable.

For me personally, there is only two companies that would get me remotely hyped with a title alone. And that is Blizzard. And Possibly CDPR.
Because unlike Microsoft, has not released any bad games.
I do not play Starcraft 2, but I enjoyed the campaign.
I do not play HOTS anymore, but I got 400 games played.
I do not play WoW right now but I got a few hundred days of playtime.
I do not play Diablo 3 anymore but I got a thousand hours or so played.
I do not play Overwatch but I got to level 136
I do play Hearthstone casually now but used to play it a lot before, 9000 wins or so.

I do not have any way to track time played for the classic games but I think you get where I am coming from.
I trust in a company, not in a title.

Seeing AoE 4 with flying jets, world war II soldiers, and stuff will mess the game. We have Empire Earth who had that scope. The new game must be set on medieval from tribal to victorian eras which is good and plain classic.

Although it's way too early to tell,i feel like on release AOE4 will be an okay to good game just like 3 was,but also for that reason it will be bashed and criticized heavily for not being on the level of AOE2 and people may quickly lose interest in it.Microsoft really need to step up their game and bring us something unique, sadly knowing them it might just be a typical rts.I really look forward to this game and i really hope it doesn't end like AOE3,criticized and bashed by AOE2 fanboys forever!
This is just an opinion!

For the record, alongside AoE, Age of Empires II and III will also get Definitive Editions.
