Is there an easy way to trigger adding time to a running one-shot countdown timer? IE: pick up a certain item, countdown extended by x seconds?

One method i was thinking might work is just to create a new clock with the old remaining time + the bonus time, but I don't see how I can capture the current timer's remaining time into a variable?
