Now when I look at it for some time, I am not sure about the glow around the edge. Maybe if I remove it or make it less, it will look better? I'm going to try it today.

I've reduced the glow a bit, and made red gems to be distinguishable; also I've worked on some small highlights and details. It looks much better now (in my humble opinion) .

With this in mind, maybe you could tweak the color of the wooden handle.
And/or a slight background glow could make it more visible.
If the weapon is supposed to be stationary, the edge of the blade could be more clear. (it's slightly blurry atm.)

But overall it looks great. These are just minor things that might make it even better.

True, this is an outstanding icon exept for the handle maybe which I suggest that you change based on the suggestions from the community.

Thank you, I tried to make the handle more visible by highlights and speculars, but a texture color change should work better. Will do

Furiontti: the blade is supposed to be shiny, but you're right, I will try to make better reflection effect without blurring the whole blade.

P.S. A bit offtopic: why did it become "ReplaceableTextures\CommandButtons\UPGUPG_AxeSteel.blp", where did the "UPGUPG" come from? Should I rename the icon before uploading and remove "UPG" from it? I thought it's needed in the same way as BTN/DISBTN is needed.

The yellow on the handle is too... Yellow-ish and there is no BTN.

I think the "yellow" is ok because it's supposed to be a specular line from a bright light source on the far left, but I can make it less saturated.

This icon is great. I think that the yellow part goes well with those red gemstones. It's colourful but not cartoonish. =)
