I tried both 1.27a and 1.26a and it just refuses to launch the thing.

Crazy. I had no problems. The whole campaign or that level?

It says: Blizzard PrePatch v2.70
An error has occurered preparing the patch. The problem can commonly be corrected by reinstalling the game and trying the update again. If this error repeats then contact Blizzard Technical Support.
Please press "OK" to exit or press "Show Details" to see more information about the error.

Ah, you meant that you can't install the patch...
Well, you need a fresh install of the game for that.
But, the game in the link, doesn't it work?

Try on the 1.21b, the version of the game in those archives.
What Windows version are you using?

Finally, it worked! However, it unfortunately overwrote the up-to-date version. I'll have to update to update the game to the latest version again, once I'm done with the campaigns that don't work with 1.30. Thanks for your help, my friend!

@deepstrasz:
now you know why you should not provide that link
...
... unless you want to do that kind of tech support, that is.

@pyf should I remove it :P?

@Ahman make a copy of one of the versions on your HDD somewhere so that it won't get updated by the patch you want to apply.

@pyf I sense some contempt in your words: "to help such people"

pyf has lost patience since he tried helping a lot of people with technical issues and those people either didn't reply or just ignored his advice.

Ah, I see. Well, I'm glad I'm not in the "such people" section.

@Ahman: the patches developed by Blizzard are always *upgrade* patches, _never_ downgrade ones.

Also, it is obvious that the full offline installable version of WC3 v1.21b has to be installed in a different folder. Mixing different versions of the game in the same WC3 folder leads to what I call 'FrankenInstalls'. Meaning, the game folder has now become a mess of mismatched contents, which might give the Blizzard online installer a hard time to fix that, the next time it is run.

These things are *obvious* to me. Aren't they obvious to you too?

@deepstrasz: that, plus I have lost my sanity by reading the official General Discussions forums / Support threads about WC3 on Battle.net.
;D

I hardly read them anymore, because I learn nothing that useful from them.
