The Forsaken are a faction of undead who broke free from the Lich King's control and now serve under the cunning leadership of Sylvanas Windrunner. They have carved out a grim existence in the ruins of Lordaeron, surrounded by blight and shadow. Masters of dark alchemy and necromancy, they wield plague, poison, and undeath as tools of war. Though once human, they have forsaken their past lives, embracing death as both weapon and identity.
Mortis Essence
Mortis Essence functions as a specialized secondary resource harvested from the dead to power Forsaken magic and technology. Gravesites act as the primary source, generating corpses at set intervals that are then processed by Morticians and Soul Shepherds. While ground corpses provide the bulk of this energy, the Forsaken can also extract essence from downed aerial enemies.
Super Plague
The Super Plague is a universal damage-over-time effect that bypasses standard resistances to rot both living and undead targets. It is applied through many delivery system where Apothecaries buff weapons with toxins, Plague Catapults launch barrels at ground clusters, and Sewn Wings units apply the infection directly to flying enemies.
Spectre Intervention
The Spectre serves as the faction's primary utility unit, combining economic gathering with battlefield support. In addition to harvesting lumber, the Spectre uses Mortis Essence to repair and heal damaged units. Its unique defensive capability allows it to haunt friendly buildings, which grants the structure a long-range spectral attack.
Unliving Will
Unliving Will is a death-triggered reinforcement mechanic that activates when specific Forsaken soldiers are destroyed. Upon death, the unit leaves behind a spectral remnant that lingers on the battlefield. By paying a resource cost, the player can summon a replacement unit or a different unit type directly to the ghost's location.
