Theme
(WIP) "In times of great need, two Troll Ritualists can merge into a single entity that radiates overwhelming voodoo power and rage. The decision to lay down the lives of valuable Troll shamans is never made lightly. However, the Archon's presence on the battlefield fills the minds of all beings - magical or otherwise - with primal fear and awe."

Role
"Anti-Caster Mech" - This unit serves as the racial "mechanical" unit, but in a unique way compared to the standard factions; instead of Siege, it's a designated Anti-Caster (ala Spellbreaker & Destroyer). Currently WIP, but I'm looking at being Mechanical/Spell Immune (self-explanatory), a "Mana Drain" ability (drains mana of target on each attack, extra damage to Summons), and a variant of the Spell Shield Rune for allies.

Let me be very up front; this is almost 100% wish fulfillment for me. If there's one thing I love more than Trolls, it's giant elemental manifestations of raw power; specifically & primarily, the Starcraft (Brood War!) Protoss Archon unit. There's no coincidence that it's my avatar everywhere I go on the Internet; I friggin' love that thing & everything about it.

I have wanted to include some form of "troll archon" (created by the ritual sacrifice & combination of two Troll shamans; replacing "psionics" with perhaps voodoo or mojo or whatever) in my custom Jungle Troll faction for years now, but not only lacked the room & the custom assets to do it justice, but the justification beyond "IT COOL". I've also struggled for a while at the lack of an 'animated golem' unit, something else I totally love & wanted to include. However, as aforementioned (the "epiphany"), I have done some serious soul-searching & realized the answer to my problem is: combining the two together. With your expertise, I hope to make that dual-dream a reality.

Mesh
Again, lemme give it to you straight: this is all about recreating the Starcraft (Brood War) Protoss Archon as faithfully as possible, except mixed with some form of "animated Troll construct". In lieu of concept art (I hope to provide some soon) (see Stein's work above), I'll try to paint a picture: essentially imagine the top-half of the WoW Troll Golem (torso, arms, hands, head, face), ensconced in & hidden by a big cloud of voodoo magicks.

Ideally the "troll golem" part should be similar to the Infernal/Revenant/Rock Golem; made up of several constituent elements that are all floating, partially connected in places, to each other. Arms should end in 3-blunt-fingered claw-like hands. Legs should be nearly nonexistent; I want them de-emphasized, if not hidden, by the cloud of SFX (see below, also see Archon images above). Face should be some sort of epic painted mask (see possible face pic above), though tusks should probably be there as well. Head should, um... Not be like the WoW Troll Golem (i.e. giant arch). Still working on that.

Mimicking the OG Archon (see videos above) and the Neutral Firelord hero, swirling around the Voodoo Golem should be a set of 3 little magical mask-buddies. Very simple geometry & SFX (not meant to draw too much attention), slower than the regular Archon. Might be the only source of TC (Undecided)

The hardest part here is the fact that I haven't yet decided what it should be/looks better: 100% Stone, 100% Wood, or a Mixture of Both (e.g. Stone body, Wooden face mask?). I know that sort of puts you, the modeler, in a bind, since even some of the basic geometry could change depending on if it's giant curved log pieces or rough/carved chunks of stone. I'm interesting in discussing that further with you.

SFX
(Normally I don't even include this section, but for this guy it's an essential part)
As mentioned above, this is basically a Troll-inspired recreation of the Starcraft (Brood War) Protoss Archon. One of the most notable & epic parts of the original is the dense cloud of psychic energy storming around the form of the Archon, partially obscuring it from view & further elevating the sense of mystery & awe.

Basically I wanna shoot for that. Giant cloud of voodoo magic, empowering, animating, and uplifting this construct.

I am not sure how that will look in-game mixed with other units, and am prepared to consider alternatives (like "dense shockwaves" or "vibrations", or perhaps some variant of the "Star.blp" that's often used in SFX). But aesthetically it should 1) partially obscure the mesh, 2) provide a clear delineation as to the extent of the being's power & presence, 3) look really cool. ; )

Textures
This will be highly dependent on whether it's Stone, Wood, or a combination of both... I have found useful Team-Color-bearing textures on VoodooLounge.blp as well as some of the Night Elf ancients. Stone should probably be Sunken Ruins based, but I'm interested in other colors. I'm... Not that great at textures. xD

Anims
Necessary:
Stand-1: classic Stand. Menacing, imposing.
Walk-1: classic Walk. This guy basically hovers, but if you can emulate the Firelord walk (powerful, purposeful striding with swinging arms), that'd be keen.
Attack-1: reaching both arms forward & channeling a beam/projectile (see Protoss Archon gameplay above)
Death: as similar to Infernal as you can; raising arms & shrieking, but finally falling to pieces as the magic dissipates. Swirling "soul-escaping-shell" SFX might be cool too.
Decay Bones: no bones but the stones/wood that make it up sinking into the ground, of course.
Birth: (Normally not important, but for the way this guy is trained (as a special 'upgrade' of the Ritualist), it is) -- Basically just a rendition of the Rock Golem creep's Birth anim; separate constituent pieces start off on the ground, then slowly rise up & circle around each other a bit to assemble the full construct in some sort of cool pose; ignite the SFX at this point, 'cuz this baby is done.

Additional If Available:
Stand-2+: Variations on Stand. Maintain air of imposing menace, but (looking around), (swinging arms), (reaching to the sky), (grabbing for something unseen), etc. (Subtle motion of constituent pieces, reassembling in mid-air)
Spell: Any kind of Spell (regular, Slam, Channel, Throw) animations you can imagine. Perhaps for Spell: (upwards fist-clenching motion) and/or (bringing both forearms parallel with each other, fists clenched, facing the target). Perhaps for Slam: (firmly punching the ground), or (putting both hands, spread-fingered, onto the ground). Etc.
Attack-2+: Variations on Attack. (reaching one arm forward), (reaching the other arm forward), etc.
Stand Victory: something really cool xD




Theme
Being fiercely territorial of their land, the Jungle Trolls put much planning and work into the safeguarding of their ancestral home. Around the domain of a given Troll tribe can be found an array of cryptic wards and vile sigils; not the least of which is the deadly Tiki Tower. Powered by dark voodoo magicks, these wardens of wood and stone can be upgraded tofire charged lances of searing energy at incursors into Troll turf.

Role
Just like the other factions, the Trolls have a simple form of stationary base defense in the form of the Tiki Tower. In it's primary form it has no attack, but can cast a spell to Reveal cloaked units in an area around itself. Upgrading it to it's attack-form robs it of this ability, but gives it the ability to attack air & ground targets at range with deadly magic laser-beams.

Mesh
The mesh should be a rough combination of the "Heart of Atlantis" (see above) around a RA2 "Tesla Tower" (also above). The two main parts are the trunk & the stone/plates. The trunk I figure as just a giant, hollowed half-log, sitting upright. Above this should be a glowing energy ball or summat. The other part is the stone/plates... I need your thoughts on this one. I could see these as giant stones just like in the movie (would make the texture-search easier), but I feel like giant wooden masks/blocks would make a lot more sense. Y'know, with big garish tiki faces & such. Simple lines, wooden construction, etc. But big, chunky, irregular-sized ovals is the key; much like the images.

Textures
For the trunk, probably just regular old VoodooLounge.blp. For the stone/plates... Ah dannae, kinda tough. If we don't worry about 'faces', you can really just put some kind of smooth-chipped stone texture (Ancient of Wonders?). If it's wood/masks, I worry that the Sentry/Healing/Stasis Wards' textures won't look good stretched out; thoughts?

Anims
As a tower, it really only needs the normal stuff (Build, Stand, Death, Attack). Since the Attack is just a (recoil-less) laser-beam, it can be as simple as a slight 'contraction' of the stone/plates. The most important bit is having the cool circling going on; a nice lazy circle that occasionally dips or shudders would be good. A Death with the stones falling to the ground, inert, would be sick; same with a Birth having the opposite (stone/plates "constructed" on ground next to trunk; final stages of Build animation features the stone/plates rising up into place)

Theme
A dingy and decrepit structure set into the native swamps of the Stranglethorn, this building trains the reptilian companions of the Jungle Trolls; the burly siege lizards known as Basilisks, and the vicious raptor mounts of the Marauders. Also found within are the wizened Hedge Witches which prepare the herbal concoctions needed to tame these vicious beasts.

Role
Basically just one of the T2 Barracks', focused on the ground assault & caster units.


Ironically, this is what I thought you were modeling when you first contacted me. Now's your chance! :p My original design drafts were pretty far from the awexome concept art by Stein123, but maybe there's something good there to work with.

Here's the main thing; this just looks friggin' cool. It's not really how I would've imagined it, but it's just so aesthetic & thematic I can't say no. Reminds me of the Naga Spawning Pool, as well.

Basically re-creating from the above, and much like what you have for your Basilisk Pit. However (and this is where I need your input); it needs... something. Some kind of 'structure' in, over or around it to flesh it out, give it a reason for being. My original thoughts were a literal 'hut' in a literal 'swamp'; perhaps this could be one of two (?) bubbling craters built next to an actual, decrepit "Hut". Think Yoda's Hut on Dagobah from Star Wars. : ) Since it's got Raptors, my original thought was a sort of Jurassic-Park-inspired "raptor cage", but that may not work/have room. Still, a cage/fenced-in-region with some bones & such would look neat.

Properly dingy, wood & stone/ground textures for the various parts.

Anims
Basic structure animations; Build/Stand/Death. Stand Work should probably feature smoke and/or lights... Bubbling in the cauldron... Ooh, maybe have the eyes on the giant dino skull light up!




Theme
A dark and foreboding shrine to the creeping things and those that go bump in the night, the Lair of Shadows provides ample roosting space in it's cavernous halls for the swarms of Vampire Bats and for the giant fruit bats which seat the Bom'bat'iers. The twisting recesses also provide more than adequate room for the Hexxer's giant spider mounts to spin their crooked webs and weave their crooked spells.

Basically just one of the T2 Barracks', focused on the aerial assault & caster units.


This image, so far, is the only real good one I have (notice I said good...); I have vacillated for some time as to what exactly this should be. I toyed with the idea of a giant decrepit tree, or a twisted vale, or a huge cavern/cave with a hut... Bleh.

is just too good to pass up. But unfortunately, we both agreed it would need something... more, to really become a "barracks"/structure. I toyed around with some model edits of the hidden Gargoyle Spire model (thought that was fitting), and that might be a good place to start... But if you'd rather work from scratch, I won't stop you; I'm just not sure where to take it. Make it a door/portal/entrance for a giant hut? Broken tree? Creepy cave? Etc. Thoughts?

Will depend heavily on your thoughts to the above question. As aforementioned, the mesh could be based off of/inspired by/directly use the hidden Gargoyle Spire model, if you want. For the "bat-mouth-cave"... Eh, the concept art is solid.

Textures
Will depend heavily on your thoughts to the above question. A good, fitting wood & stone texture wouldn't hurt; the "bat-mouth-cave" in particular should be a nice, jungle-y-ruin-y stonework (maybe Ashenvale textures?)

Anims
The standard few will be fine (Birth/Death/Stand/Stand Work/etc). For the Stand Work, I imagine it's got to have a little crowd of bats flying around it (like the ghosts of the Undead graveyard, lol); aside from that, it will depend heavily on the mesh. I like the thought of the "bat-mouth-cave" breathing evil dark dust-magick, or maybe having the eyes light up (too much with the Swamp Hut?).

The original idea is simply "Troll cavalry-caster", i.e. "Mounted Troll Wizard". I just thought it'd be cool to see a cavalry-caster. Upon reflection (& with raptors & bats already taken), I decided upon insects... And what better insect than a creepy jungle spider?

Further reflection revealed the need for an anti-caster (like the Destroyer, Faerie Dragon, Spellbreaker, etc), as well as a generally 'offensive' caster to counterpoint the existing "Potion Doc"s 'supportive' nature (like Sorceress to Priest, Witch Doctor to Shaman, Banshee to Necromancer, etc).

With some luck, I happened upon the "Hexxer" concept; an gnarled, wicked Troll priestess riding a creepy jungle spider, wielding spider-themed spirit-powered anti-magicks. " 'Welcome to my parlor' said the spider to the fly" and all that.

Later, in looking at the Techtree, I realized my distaste for the name "Potion Doc", and with AnemicRoyalty's excellent model being ideal as she is, I realized I could instead switch genders & have the support caster be a girl; a "Hedge Witch" if you will (much better name/concept IMO).

However, since that's the model I was going to use as the spider's mount... I needed a new one. This means the Hexxer became a guy (*sigh*. Kinda like the role-reversal of a non-nurturing woman-caster, but oh well). I eventually decided upon -Grendel's stellar Troll Conjurer model as a fitting mount for the nasty jungle Spider.

Hopefully that gives some insight into the process. The important bits are:
- Male Troll (preferably); creepy, wizened, malicious
- Jungle Spider; creepy, jungle-y, big, DIFFERENT FROM REGULAR WC3 SPIDERS somehow... Big head mostly
- Dark Magicks
- Some kinda seat?
- Some kinda mage-weapon?

And really the most important bit is the spider: Like I said, I already (basically) have a good Rider, and the rest is relatively simple. But a good, creepy Jungle Spider that looks/acts different from the in-game ones... Haven't seen that anywhere,

On that note:


Theme
A nefarious shaman of dark spirit magicks, mounted on the back of a creepy jungle spider. Fickle and crafty, the Hexxers power through swampy landscapes on eight surprisingly quick legs, hunting down enemy mages and generally creeping people out. They can utilize their mount's natural toxins to Mind Poison enemy mages, draining their mana, as well as the poison's reparative effects to Disrupt the buffs of chains of target units. Master Hexxer's can even place a Null Ward, completely disabling spell-casting in an area.

Role
This is a Frozen-Throne-style response to mass-casters; basically just the Jungle Trolls "anti-caster" unit, who is himself a caster. He's not got a strong attack, but being mounted he's not as slow as other casters.


Mesh
As stated above, the clincher is the spider. My biggest intentions are to have something made that is sufficiently different from the regular, in-game Spiders; if I wanted that I'd just (learn to) use Retera's MatrixEater & stick two models together. : )

One of the most simple/obvious parts that will set it apart, I think, is the head. A big 'tarantula'-style head (see some of the artwork above) with giant dripping fangs & pedipalps would be great. I'm hoping to use the hidden Spiderling icon for it, so something akin to that?

Past that.... I have yet to determine exactly which is best. Regular-spider legs (i.e. thing & spindly) or tarantula-style (i.e. big, thick & hairy)? Abdomen-size (anything from "small as head" to "massive bulbous web-spinning thing")? Etc. Surprise me, I guess?

I'm kinda a fan of a sort of "chair/saddle" thing (or at least, a sort of "back-plate" as you see in one of the above images. Spida Webz!)..

Weapon could perhaps be a small-ish magic truncheon?

Now, if for whatever reason you are reluctant to use the aforementioned Troll Conjurer as a whole piece, feel free to start modeling some kind of cool, creepy Troll (see this pic, mayhaps?), and then take some of the cool bits from -Grendel's (the mask, the pauldron, the staff?). And, if for whatever reason you are reluctant to use it at all... Well, I can respect that. Just trying to save you some work. Let me know what you come up with.

Anims
Let me know what you feel capable of. The simplest thing would just be stapling the Conjurer on a Wc3 spider (changing mesh but keeping anims (of course, can't have the spider's "Spell" anim; waving his abdomen right into the rider :p).

Textures
I'm all about in-game textures... But you already knew that. And it's what you do, anyway. : ) I'll leave this up to you; I trust your judgement.

This is a little bit of my own creation, mostly disregarding filthy WoW lore. However, it's not entirely different, so check out the Basilisk and the Crocolisk. Who doesn't love a giant nasty jungle lizard stomping around, breaking things!


Theme
This is the burly reptilian buddy that the Jungle Trolls are so keen on taming. A massive & dangerous pet, the Basilisk a powerful swamp lizard with several unique properties. Their thick cranial plates give them battering-ram-like capabilities, while their rubbery skin & thick armor plates deflect enemy attacks. Six sturdy legs power them over any terrain, and their unique myotoxic secretions can actually Paralyze enemy warriors.

Role
This is an answer to early Troll siege (melee medium-high Siege damage) and also a sort of alternative psuedo-meat shield in the style of the Spell Breaker (short-ranged light Piercing damage). Of the three major "melee" options for the Trolls, the Basilisk is the lowest in terms of attack damage & speed, but the highest in terms of HP and general toughness.

So. I already have a model as a stand-in / base for this one; it's the "Dinosaur" from OH, which is simply the Green Dragonspawn with it's entire upper torso removed and the leftover head grafted onto the chest. Yeah, not pretty. It doesn't have Team-Color (a must), and is pretty bland, and the head looks silly if you zoom in. (This model (texture-path: "Textures\Dino.blp") is provided as a Base to work from, if you so desire, attached to this post. Straight from Ominous Horizons; go check it out!)


Mesh
Going off some of the artwork, I'd like to see some sort of gill/fins, as well as some armor plates (although not necessarily massive ones all the way down the back). Also, as a melee organic Siege unit, it must realistically be able to smash things with it's head; refer to the below by PhillipDege for some great artistic options of "head-bashing animals".

An open mouth & teeth would be neat, but not necessary.

Finally, on the legs... Six is not necessary, but using Retera's MatrixEater, it might be more than possible; even easy! Just clone 2 of the legs and move them in the middle.

Really just the basics, and they're pretty much already there (just make sure they look good with the new features); Stand, Walk, Death/Decay, Attack (bashing & spitting), Portrait, etc.

Textures
Again, the Green Dragonspawn is pretty much perfect (scales, green, claws, face, etc). It will need some alternate textures for the additions; in-game is required. Gills could be from the Naga (Royal Guard/Myrmidon/Siren/Snap Dragon/etc), Armor Plates... Depends on whether it's natural (thick skin) or artificial (actual Trollish armor). Surprise me. Head-Banger... again, surprise me. Natural.

Team Color should perhaps be on the Gills and the Armor Plates, I suppose.

//EDIT// After consideration, I have realized that Cavman's excellent Crocodile model would be a great base. It's almost identical to the "Dinosaur" I have linked below, but the mesh-merging is done better and the animations are kept for the mouth. All that would change is that unsightly-long mouth be shrunk back to 'normal'. Not sure what color, to be honest, though I learn towards regular-ol Green.

Quick Request - Creating a Projectile

Hello, all!

Normally I avoid making Requests, but this seemed so simple... And unfortunately, Zyne & Retera's Simple Model Workshop is on hiatus... So here I am!

I am looking for a quickie, to start with (we'll see how well this goes :p): I would like a simple Projectile Model made from the shrunken head in the left-arm of this model, the Jungle Troll Headshrinker (by Tijil, AnemicRoyalty AR, and finally jigrael Tarrasque).

In terms of permission... Well, I'm the guy who got the base from the author, requested the texture, and requested the anims, soooo... I'm pretty sure I've got that covered.

  • Take the shrunken elf-head
  • Make it a Projectile (with basic animations):
    • Birth (pops into existence)
    • Stand (spins, semi-slowly, lopsided if you can)
    • Death (hits the ground, bounces, then rolls/bobs around for a sec before disappearing)
  • Give it a splashy green SFX around it while it's spinning (i.e. as if it's been dunked in greenish magick goop (see Headshrinker Spell Animation), maybe a little Trailer of SFX as well (same color).

This is entirely my own creation. I love Jungle Trolls & ancient Mesoamerican (Maya/Inca/Aztec/etc) cultures. Thus the idea of blow-guns & poison darts was planted. Then, when looking for creative/unique Unit ideas, I happened upon an "Anti-Unit Mech" (as opposed to the ever-popular "Anti-Building (Siege) Mech"). This seemed like the perfect fit.

Basically, take a "wall of dart-shooting blowguns" (ever popular trap in those classic 'Indiana Jones' movies), 'wrap it' onto a tower, then squish & place that tower onto a mobile skiff-like mech for easy transit in Swampy, Jungle-y terrain.

Trolls need a Mech, and this is the best I've come up with (beat out "Voodoo Barge" for sure :p). I'm open to suggestions, however.


Theme
This is a classic hunting device engineered by an enterprising Troll, and refashioned into a engine of war. It's multiple dart-firing rings allow it to fire a barrage of painful darts at nearby enemies; instead of nabbing flocks of birds, we're nabbing flocks of baddies. :p

Role
Like I said, Basically, this guy is great Ranged Support. His Multishot ability allows him to attack up to 10 targets at once with tiny, needle-sharp darts of doom. This unit is best for loads of weaker enemies (gargoyles, batriders, hippogryphs, etc). Not so good against a few big baddies (frost wyrms, chimaeras, etc). Throw some melee warriors at the enemy, and stack a few Dart Skiffs behind to really soften them up. Each dart deals minimal damage, but at 5-10 targets hit per attack, you're really weakening the enemy as a whole. Being a Mech means it can be Repaired but not Healed; keep some Slaves nearby to keep it in tip-top condition.

So that's a good explanation of what it is, what it does. Model-wise, here are some of my thoughts:


Mesh
This being the most unique part, I have included some concept art to get the point across. Let me know if you need more/better; I'll do my best. :p

Basically, your basic "skiff" (pontoons or curved log-thing, like on the front of a train), mounted with a sort of "spinning-ring" mechanism mounted with holes for the blowguns (and possibly faces/tiki masks, to scare enemies :p). On top... I'm not quite sure. I know something needs to go there, but what? A frondy set of leaves for camouflage? A steam-powered thingamabob to power the blowguns? A set of bellows? A set of tubes? A big nasty ward/totem to instill fear? Spikes? etc. Give me your thoughts.

Anims
Really just the basics, like any mech; Stand, Walk, Death/Decay, Attack, Portrait, etc. The "Attack" should be super-easy; darts don't have a lot of kick-back, so it should barely jerk (maybe dust or smoke from the holes?).

However, I would like (if possible) to have the rings rotating while moving & firing.

Textures
This is essentially a wooden construct. So the Voodoo Lounge (log with TeamColor band) might be a good base choice, as well as "LordSNatural"... But don't stop there, since nearly every building is the same. :p Let me know.

Team Color... I dunno, would have to see it. Pontoons? Rings? Top-thingie?

The 'ring thingies'... Hmm, really have to find a better way to explain that. Basically, the idea kinda came from one of my old favorite childhood games, Banjo-Tooie. One of the first bosses was Targitzan, basically a giant living totem pole that spun & shot darts at you (image here, video here) The video is probably most helpful, as it describes the kind of motion & actions I am hoping for in the Dart Skiff; the "top section" should be a series of rings or platforms or discs that spin & shoot darts.

Now, the problem is (see "v1" concept art at top of page) that a giant totem pole/tower on a mech looks silly; too top-heavy, like it would fall over.
So I just decided to "squish" it down onto the mech, making it look more streamlined. "segments of a turtle shell" isn't actually a bad way to go... But don't just stick a Dragon Turtle-shell on the back of this thing. :p That'd look a little more... Naga, I think.

I've also re-scanned my Concept Art page; my wife did a few drawings for me in the corner (also check the idea of "Log pontoons").

Does that make more sense?

Simply the classic, and requisite, "Jungle Troll riding a Raptor" unit. This is popular enough to have been made before, but I'll be honest; I'm not very impressed. Stretchy UV wraps, skewed animations and bones, boring Trollish riders... Bleh. Cavman's Raptor is probably the best attempt so far (though the skin is weird, and he looks more like a dog than a raptor).

Basically, this is the Trollish Cavalry unit. More like the Orcish Raider than the Human Knight, this guy attacks fast and moves fast. Not as high damage as the Trollish Ravager, nor as sturdy as the Trollish Basilisk, the Marauder instead excels at hit-and-run, guerrilla warfare. Meshes well with an accompanying Warbringer (hero-version of Marauder).

I'm sorta vague on the details, but he should basically be a feisty Troll with a "need-for-speed", mounted on a ravenous Raptor with a "need-for-feed"; feeding on the flesh of his enemies, that is! The Marauder has one ability, a passive called "Laceration"; every X% of attacks, the Raptor will lash out with his razor-sharp claws, tearing holes in the enemy which bleed over time (-HP Regen, -Armor) (good 'Attack Slam').

This guy has been floating around for a long time; a necessary unit-type in my mind, but one that has never really been nailed down well until just recently. However, one major problem remains.


Theme
This is a ritualistic Tiki warrior that more advanced Troll societies can train. Tattooed and deeply aligned with the spirits, these warriors can launch a variety of spells to assault their enemies and defend their homelands. Hidden behind each mask is a hatred of those who encroach upon ancestral homes.

Role
Here's my big answer: Basically, think "Starcraft Terran Ghost". A light/medium Ranged Support, that really doesn't deal much in the way of damage (so you won't be using them to fight), but instead has a variety of spells useful in combat & at home. Psuedo-caster (important for the Trolls, with their emphasis on de magicks) with some Anti-Caster capabilities. His abilities are partially in flux, but Spell Immunity is a given, as is some kind of AoE mana-loss/dispel and some corpse-using spell. Also a tower-buffing spell. Probably.

Basically, I have the model for this (attached to post), and I've already made a few of the (easy) edits that I could (removing Hero Glow, renaming Animation). However, since this model needs to be used for a UNIT, the biggest problem is that it was made as a HERO; it's shiny, has lots of glows, and is overall just too epic.

So my Request: Turn this Hero into a Unit. "How," you might ask?


Mesh
Make less Heroic. Must be for a unit (intermediate warrior/caster ranged/base support unit, but unit nonetheless).

- Hero Glow //DONE
- Less Glow in General (staff? shoulder-mask-feathers? etc) (would still like some glows, to be honest, because he's all special and magical, but not nearly as many as are on there now)
- Less muscular
- Move head down on chest slightly; more pronounced 'hunch'

Basically, mimic the style & presentation of the Unit presented in the attached images:

This guy is basically identical, but he's definitely (compare to the Zul'jin & other models) a Unit. That's what I'm looking for.

Anims

Don't worry too much about this, unless you know how to add animations. I could use some more custom ones... Or maybe a fitting in-game one (Felguard?). But really just a copy of one of the existing ones, renamed, might be useful (spell channel, attack, etc).

[REQUEST] - Model Edit: Troll Batrider Remake

Alright, I think I can finally break down and ask.

I've been working on something for a while (see sig), and I have "made do" with the in-game "Troll Batrider" model forever. I have long had thoughts about what to do with it, but A: didn't want to change everything around, and B: didn't want to need a custom model.

The other problem is, the in-game Troll Batrider model is extremely specialized (in form) for what it does & can do; i.e. unlike the Huntress (who can throw her glaive (ranged) or slash with it (melee), or other models (whose animations can be renamed or shuffled around to produce various effects), the Batrider kinda can only be light, quick recon & air-to-ground (& siege/fire, with his weapon). Incredibly specific.

My quest is to make a unit very similar to the in-game Batrider (i.e. a Jungle Troll, riding a bat), but that should be able to be differentiated from him in-game (visually & how it is used). I was long convinced there was no hope without extensive animation re-working (which I know is out of your field), but I had the thought to just "take a look" at how the model appears with a few minor adjustments. *ahem*.

If are willing, I would like to see as much as possible of the following:

The Troll Batrider model

  • Weapon (most important; simplest)
  • ANYTHING but a fiery flask. I just need to know if the model can support any other kind of attack without tweaking anims. Specifically if he can handle air-to-air, or long-ranged air-to-ground (since the normal Batrider throws nearly under himself)
  • Ideas include a blade (wicked curved scimitar), a spear (classic; long for ranged throwing, short & bladed for melee swiping), a bag of projectiles (rocks? shrunken heads? etc), and "something" that could be doused in flame (i.e. multipurpose siege/normal damage, based on the target; think the Demolisher or the Huntress).
  • Armor (less important)
  • Some kind of armor, fitting for an aerial warrior. This unit is meant to be bigger & stronger than the normal Batrider (but still not as armored as, say, a Dwarf; too heavy to fly after all :p).
  • Perhaps a thick, spiked shoulder-pad with an attached Bandolier? A series of overlapping shoulder-pauldrons that run down the arm? A medium Buckler attached to the non-weapon arm? A leather helmet on the bat/rider? Etc.

Hopefully that doesn't sound like too much. First and foremost I'm concerned about the weaponry & making it make sense; what is possible will heavily determine what Role this unit ends up filling (i.e. if he can be anything other than "light aerial Siege").

3) Off the top of your head, if I were going to implement a sort of "Swooping Dive"* animation for a spell or attack, is there anything in-game that that can be ripped from? Similar question for a "Bat-Bite" and a "Rider Sword-Slash" animation (don't necessarily throw them on there, more asking if you as a modeller know of existing animations you can grab those from)

To that, I might clarify: leave the weapon on the normal Batrider as it is, since I cannot yet decide. However, him &/or the bat in such a way as to differentiate them from the "normal" (in-game) Troll Batrider.

Biggest & most important avenue for that: Armor for the rider (and/or the Bat).

Second might be different kind of Bat or Rider (TeamColor stripes on wing or fur? Legs? Pointier head? Um?)

[REQUEST] - Model Edit: (Troll) Vampire Bat

Well while Retera is so kindly working on one thing, I think I have another, much simpler request, to throw out to Zyne if he's still up for it:


Basically looking for a solid, basic Bat unit, just the Bat snipped from underneath the Troll in the Trollish Batrider unit.

Now, one might say, But Kyrbi0, what about this model" Well, I've used that, and it's nice... But for two major issues:

1) It has no Team Color (very important for melee-compatibility), and
2) It has an empty, blocky backside (Blizzard didn't put anything there, as it's hidden by the Troll rider).

So what I would like to ask is rather simple (hopefully):

  • We kill the Bat-man xD
  • Take the Troll Batrider
  • Remove the Troll
  • ???
  • PROFIT!
(feel free to either modify the aforementioned "BatTroll" model by GreyArchon (since he gave implicit permission), or start from scratch; whatever's easiest)

However, to then address the two issues above (and add a little flavor & utility):
  • Remove the Troll BUT KEEP THE PACK (the leather sack full of fiery flasks)! Leaving the pack not only covers up the blank backside, but gives them a reason to live (i.e. little Bats used as messengers for Troll commanders; carrying messages in a sack like pigeons), and is already animated to boot!
  • Remove the 'fiery flasks' from the rucksack, and possibly replace them with some rolled Scrolls (I believe the Orc Gul'dan model has some).
  • Find someplace for Team Color. Perhaps a streak on the pack, perhaps bands/stripes of TC on the fur/wings/etc, perhaps a band on the scrolls... A great option would be making a sort of "bandanna" that goes across the back/backpack from the Troll Berserker's mohawk (TeamColor strip with cool gold markings).
  • And of course, remove the "Death Spell" exploding animation. He just needs to fly, attack (bite), and die.
