The Nightborne are an ancient elven civilization, descendants of Highborne who shielded their city of Suramar within a powerful arcane dome for 10,000 years. Sustained by the potent magic of the Nightwell, they became physically dependent on its energy (often consumed as Arcwine), risking a debilitating Withering without it. Freed from Legion influence and their isolation, they are now proud members of the Horde, known for their sophisticated culture, mastery of arcane magic (especially illusion and temporal arts), and distinct physical features shaped by millennia of living on concentrated arcane power.
Magical Dome
The Nightborne traditionally lived in isolation behind immense magical domes that protected them from the outside world. Smaller-scale versions of these domes now augment Nightborne Spires, drawing on the Spires' mana reserves to protect nearby buildings. If a protected structure is damaged, part of the damage is absorbed as mana is drawn from the nearest Spire.
Withering
The combination of their inherent curse and distance from the Nightwell causes Nightborne warriors to experience Withering. A significant effect of this affliction occurs at low health: the warrior's offensive power diminishes, and their susceptibility to damage increases.
Aegis of the Nightwell
Arcwine is vital to the Nightborne, sustaining them and preventing their degeneration into Nightfallen. Drinking it grants the Aegis of the Nightwell, a shield that protects from harm and stops the withering process. This Aegis is fundamental to the Nightborne military strength. Sources for this effect include Arcwine Basins, Astrologers, and Wine Carriages.
Mysterious Arts
Nightborne spellcasters and specialized warriors leverage unique forms of magic to gain tactical advantages. Their abilities focus on battlefield control, including spells that disrupt enemy advances, displace opposing units, and provide protection for allies. Such proficiency often stems from their unique understanding of temporal and spatial manipulation, honed over centuries of isolation.
