Spearmen are slower infantry, both in attack in movement. Being bested by basic infantry in melee combat and easily overrun by archers, they have two advantages; they are cheaper and deal bonus damage against cavalry. The bonus increases with the weapon, from spears, to pikes, and finally, halberds.
