Haha, perhaps I've gotten too used to them (or they've just slowly affected my hearing).
There's definitely some humour in there (mainly in some NPC dialogue and item description)! I wanted to create the feeling of an old-timey epic, like a medieval romance from the 1960s. So the story is mainly rooted in a revenge/redemption plot, but there's of course more to it.
It's quite funny, the idea originally came from the regulations around copyrighted music. I found old recordings (now in the public domain) of classical music (which in itself is in the public domain), and then decided to create the atmosphere and text font (with floral decorations) based around music of this genre.
Phantom of the Village? Is that like a romance I just described? Doesn't ring a bell unfortunately.
Oh yes, there's loads of custom voice acting (around 60-65 mb). There's dialogue that many will probably never hear, as the NPC is hidden behind a secret quest. It was a joy to record all of the voices though
Nope, I did all of the voices (for 7 NPCs)! I think I was able to differentiate them rather well though, both by experimenting and thus massacring my voice, and then add further depth with various sound editing programs.
