Probably because I had already talked about that 1982 film (as well as about Brian Froud) in that very same thread: Put a picture of an strange place
;D
Man, so bummed that I didn't watch Dark Crystal as a kid. It feels like that kind of movie that only gets better with a touch of nostalgia. xD 80s fantasty/sci-fi adventure movies were really great though, like Neverending Story.
Will definately check out the art thread you linked
The last time I saw The Dark Crystal was probably somewhere in the mid-late 1990s, as an adult. I felt the plot to be a bit hollow. And even if it was the early 1980s, a faster pacing could have helped, too.
Apart from this, the film sure still is a great artistic achievement imho.
Regarding 'puppet' films of the 1980s, the two Gremlins are a lot more well-known in France (due to multiple re-runs on TV), than Return to Oz or Labyrinth.

Overall, all of them four are better than The Dark Crystal iirc.
Fyi, the (many) Muppets films are mostly unknown in France afaik.
@pyf sorry 'bout that...
I wouldn't say Labyrinth is better than Dark Crystal. They don't follow the same intrigue. And, honestly, Labyrinth is more of a musical.
