He must have displeased the machine spirits with his poor maintanance habits. Thats why daemon weapons are so much better than those mythical mechanus machine spirits, instead of blowing up and dying instantly, you instead constantly risk daemonic possesion and losing your soul to chaos. Sounds like a fair trade to me.
