It's a unit and I want to avoid a mess of purple crystals on the battlefield, hence the simple hammer.

I see your point. So maybe nothing flashy and too strange, but something simple but still looking more Draenei? Like this?

I agree that hammer need a bit more love, but there is another thing I must mention: the pants. This texture looks ok for a caster, but heavy melee unit needs something like mail for example.

Another great addition to the Draenei people! But what about making hammer a bit bigger, at least? Because at the moment he looks like a builder somehow.
