It seems strange to me that Makral does not share the same opinnion with the Human lord, about soldiers deaths being meaningless.. :/

The Human lord is zealous fanatic and Makral is calculative and sinister villain. Wile human lord is ready to die for chaos, Makral on the other hand is not.

Because he doesn't want to go back to death. He was killed once and is not about to do it again. Undeadth is for some solution to stay immortal.
