Hook Extreme

Map Info:

In this map you have to fight in a small arena as a mage against other mages with powerful spells. For example the 'Fire Hook' which literally grabs your enemies and draw them to you while dealing a nice amount of damage.
The main objective is to kill 50 enemy mages.

Features:

A working AI which casts 'Chain Lightning' at you(Has to be a slot occupied by a computer)
Meteors are falling from the skies, which deal damage.
The mysterious mage will cause a huge explosion each 2 minutes at the middle of the map which deals a lot of damage.
Some Items which might be useful.
4 different spells(Fire Hook, Ice Hook, Teleport, Life Drain).
3 Modes:
-np to remove peasents/zombies
-ni to remove all shops and disable money gain
-eg to remove 'Kill Gain' Endless Game
6 different items which spawn somewhere in the arena every minute!

Special notes:

This is the 'Extreme' version of the original game (Hook Arena) which was created by DWGPlasmos who dropped his map due to several bugs which he couldnt fix. He asked me to fix the bugs and allowed me to finish his map. Also all of the spells except Teleport and Ice Hook are made by him.


Changes from Hook Arena to Extreme
There were Falling Stars instead of Meteors
There was no mage which caused a huge explosion every 2 minutes
There werent ANY items
lvling was quite difficult
No AI
No screen effects/shaking camera
No tile changing during the game
No Ice Hook
No Upgrade Items


The AI only uses Chain Lightning as it seemed like impossible for me to make it cast anything else with my triggering skills.

Changelog and Credit list of the first version of Hook Arena till this version is also in the Quest(F9) menu of the map.

EDIT: Okay, i tested it.
I really think if only i knew whats going on XD
too many things happening, i get hit/die no idea how
explosions every where (which i love (^^))
and the screen wont stop shaking :p
but again, u told us everything in the description, but still can u like post a video of how to dodge the middle damage or is it just splash :S and the hooks can bend :D i love this map Gd Job Keep It Up =D =D
and i tell u all "TRY IT SO FUN =D"

I tested map and I was a little disappointed, why because I saw:
- 2 many special effect shown on screen!
- Very bad triggers with wait action and memory leaks!
- No ability descriptions!
- Big file size (8.218 MB for war3mapImported\The 'GOD' Fist.mp3)!
Remove sound file or use some audio tool to shrink it!

Basically map is about 4 units (4 players) that can cast hook and few other spells without description!

Oh I saw some items, simple no custom ones!

Please add credits to hook spell creators, remove overused special effects, clean leaks from map, remove Do Nothing and Wait trigger actions, add custom created spells like hook and I will approve this minigame!

By ability descriptions do you mean in the game descriptions or the ingame tooltips?
The reason why there are so many special effects is, it is the extreme version of the map. My friend kinda liked it.

You can even remove it, add awesome loading screen instead, map size won't be large and people won't wait to dl it once when you host it!
You can use blizzard music if you want, just create commands so player can write for example:
-music human (to play human music theme)

For the triggers, Yeah I didnt make the Hook spell, My friend made it(DWGPlasmos)
Which I also wrote in the description ;)

I removed the music too, I am going to work on the music commands now.

Hmm I have never noticed the missing tooltips before!
Edit: Mind telling me which spells didnt have a description?

Btw, whats the matter with triggers which contain 'wait commands'?

You could cut down the music file size with Audacity. Both quality and lenght.

32ish kbps .mp3 files mostly sounds like the original but take less space. And you can cut it so that it sounds like an infinite loop.

I got my Benny Hill theme from 4 minutes to 50 seconds and bit rate from I-dont-remember-what to 24 kbps and its now only 150 kt that isn't after all that big problem.

Updated!

I remade the description for all spells and added 4 new items!

Working on the triggers now



I fixed most of the stuff listed by -Kobas- now,

I reduced the amount of effects shown on screen drastically
All abilities should have a description now
I also reduced the map size by removing the music
And I made the current items more custom and even added 4 more

I have given proper credits to everyone who helped out making this map, it seemed like making a good description doesnt mean you read it!

I won :p the terrain is simple and flat but it still look good, the hero with those orbs rotating around him is epic too, but there's something I dislike, there's too much special effects, I barely see the enemy's heroes and mine too. and what's with those random explosion?
Recommendations

-Instead of making a random mage for player, maybe you can make a small tavern (or any model you can use) wherein players will be able to pick their hero.
-Those items looks really random, I suggest instead of items you can use upgrades (increases range, damage, speed etc.)
-The AI needs a lot of improvement, they should dodge and hook more often.
-Make more hooks like "Frost Hook", "Shadow Hook" and such.
-Lessen those random explosions.

[+] Terrain is good
[+] Adding those peasants to serve as a blocker is very good and unique idea

  • Originality: 8/10 Pudge Wars already exist, but you made a lot of modifications (like changing the hook into different elements like that "fire hook" or whatever you call it. You also decided to add more spells. great job.
  • Creativity: 7/10 Like I said terrain is very nice, When I played the game, the tilesets suddenly changed I don't know if that's part of the gameplay or what. Also you used good models for those mages and making them a little bit dark is a wise decision too.
  • Description: 5/10 Description isn't that good and not bad either. Could use some improvement in organization and improve the use of BBcodes.

I was planning on adding some more hooks, I am pretty sure there will be a new one in the next version.

All those special effects is pretty cool, but like I said in the review, it's making it harder for player to see things in the map. maybe lessen it.

The model used is already fine :) the explosion keeps on killing the mages, before you even have a chance to hook them they die because of those explosions, my opinion is that it isn't a good idea adding a damage since it will be killing more and more mages everytime it hits the ground. and yes, if the meteor only has a little damage adding a splash would be a good idea.

About the credits, I really added everyone who helped making the extreme version.

Good :), you'll have just have to wait until a moderator moderate this map again.

I fixed all tooltips, I noticed you propably couldnt read it because of the massive amounts of special effects, thats what my friend said. All Hotkeys are working and are written in the abilities.
I added 2 more 'modes' since your last review(?)

About the difficulties I am currently working on the new AI, so this should be done at like version 2(?)

Edit: Well then I am fine with a Mini-Game, I even think that fits a bit more!

got a critacal error after 10 or so minutes into the game, the amount of meteors coming down waas about 4 times more than a minute before. also teleport learn tooltip was in german (i think) i was playing with just 1 comp. Also for frie hook and im assuming all of them they curve if you target a person and you facing a differant direction. thats fine, but maybe add a command to disable it or make you face the person first, so it would follow them if them moved.

The hooks are supposed to bend, it can be very helpfully to advanced players, chasing hooks would make the game a bit boring in my opinion.

I found some errors..
Fixes?

1st of all, the items..
The health potion heals WAAY more than 500 as it says.
The "Teleportation shard" which grants you bonus damage, why give it stacks?
And sometimes the bonus damage doesn't apply.. (if it even does at all?)

Spells:
Hrm, Maybe arrange them a little better?
Like: QWER ?
The firehook is on the Q place with the Q hotkey, the icehook is on the W place with the E hotkey and the teleport thing is on the E place with the W hotkey and the lifedran.. doesn't have a hotkey.
And imo, the icehook is totaly useless. First of all, it bugs when pressing it.
My mouse cursor dissapears when I press it, also when it's cast, it just goes a VERY short range compared to the firehook.
The Teleportation skill is kinda.. OP but I guess it's okay since everyone got the same?
The Lifedrain is also totaly useless, make it as strong as any other ability you've made or just remove it and add a short stun or something..

Also to the triggering:
  • TELEPORT
    • Events
      • Unit - A unit Begins channeling an ability
    • Conditions
      • (Ability being cast) Equal to [W] Teleport R
    • Actions
      • Unit - Make (Casting unit) Invulnerable
      • Unit - Cause (Casting unit) to damage circular area after 0.01 seconds of radius 500.00 at (Position of (Casting unit)), dealing TeleportDamage damage of attack type Spells and damage type Lightning
      • Wait 0.01 seconds
      • Unit - Make (Casting unit) Vulnerable
You should always start any ability trigger with "Starts the effect of an ability".
Otherwise, you can bug them ingame.

Also, try to clean up every leak, just so that you know how to and that you don't miss any of them laters or something... Example:

Here as you may see, i've added a simple custom script that removes this trigger when it's done:

      • Melee Game - Run melee AI scripts (for computer players)
      • Visibility - Disable black mask
      • Visibility - Disable fog of war
      • Camera - Change camera smoothing factor to 1.00

      • Custom script: call DestroyTrigger( GetTriggeringTrigger() )
This will save you some memory and prevent lagg that may occur.

Also, i've found some position leaks, like this one:
  • Red
    • Events

    • Conditions

      • Wait 5.00 seconds
      • Hero - Instantly revive Hawk Eye 0001 <gen> at (Center of Gebiet 001 <gen>), Hide revival graphics
      • Camera - Pan camera for Player 1 (Red) to (Position of Hawk Eye 0001 <gen>) over 0.00 seconds
Fix it like so:
  • Red
    • Events
      • Unit - Hawk Eye 0001 <gen> Dies
    • Conditions
    • Actions
      • Wait 5.00 seconds
      • Set Temp_Point = (Center of Gebiet 001 <gen>)
      • Hero - Instantly revive Hawk Eye 0001 <gen> at Temp_Point, Hide revival graphics
      • Custom script: call RemoveLocation (udg_Temp_Point)
      • Set Temp_Point = (Position of Hawk Eye 0001 <gen>)

You've got lots of point leaks, but this shouldn't matter I guess cuz of your size of the map. I'm just lettin you know.

And last but not least, I found something to totaly overbugg the teleport extra damage with.

This says that you can buy a shard (you get the bonus) and drop it (still got the bonus) and just buy another one?
So you actually don't need to carry the shard to maintain the bonus damage? maybe it was your intention to do this, but.. well, state so if it is.


Also, some kinda important leaks to fix??

For example; this trigger creates 4 leaks every 100th sec:

I tested map and I was a little disappointed, why because I saw:
- 2 many special effect shown on screen!
- Very bad triggers with wait action and memory leaks!
- No ability descriptions!
- Big file size (8.218 MB for war3mapImported\The 'GOD' Fist.mp3)!
Remove sound file or use some audio tool to shrink it!

Basically map is about 4 units (4 players) that can cast hook and few other spells without description!

Oh I saw some items, simple no custom ones!

Please add credits to hook spell creators, remove overused special effects, clean leaks from map, remove Do Nothing and Wait trigger actions, add custom created spells like hook and I will approve this minigame!

Map status: Rejected (Until Updated)
Please if you decide to improve map just update this one and send message to us, we will unlock thread for you once again!

He also stated that you should fix the leaks, so do it, and perhaps you'll get approved :p

Heya!

First, I was intending to let the Shards stack to save inventory space.
The potion must have been a typo, going to fix it once I am working on the map again.
Good point with the ability positions... havent thought about it yet.
The life drain will be replaced, I know its kinda senceless.
I was working on the icehook, it was supposed to drag items too you and freeze your enemys.
I thought I fixed the bug with the dissapearing mouse, going to fix this...
Teleportation is OP for now, as I was planning to add 'upgrade items' for the hooks aswell.

For the triggering part, I am aware some of them leak, I just havent had the time to fix everything. You even showed me some I didnt knew of...
