Jack of Hearts Presents
"The Pagan Gods" (Previously known as "Trials of the Island")
Created by Jack of Hearts
Map Info
Digging back through the old school and even new school 'god games' on Warcraft 3, I've found that they've had quite a bit of potential, but a few flaws that kept them back. The god units were always so overpowered, and all the events or abilities for the gods had a tendency to simply wipe out whatever they were used on. But overall, they were excellent, if a tad under credited games.
And so I've decided to give it a shot at creating a brand new 'god game', dubbed Trials of the Island. The concept being that eight custom shipwrecked sailors were brought to an island with promises of wealth, fame and fortune, only to be confronted by not only the monsters and creatures that inhabit it, but the pagan deities as well. Unfortunately, due to a great cataclysm that had transpired many years ago, the former mighty race that once dwelled on the island has long since died out, leaving the power behind the pagan gods to greatly wane, held up only by the collective will of minor bands of savages and petty pygmy tribes.
But with the new island arrivals, will the gods find a new source of prayer to draw power from? Or will the newly arrived mortals dominate not only the gods, but the mysterious island as well?
Features
This game uses a mana system for the deities based of an old map called 'War of the Gods'. Simply put, the more temples built for any one of the four gods, the greater the power (mana) they will have and the more cataclysmic/destructive/fabulous their powers and possible events will become. Eventually, the god may even be able to set foot in the mortal realm; at present the power of these ancient entities has fallen to such dire levels that they can't even maintain themselves outside of host bodies or pocket realms. No monster will attack the gods.
Of course, despite their weakness, the gods are far from defenceless, but even still they can be conquered and defeated by the mortals. In fact, it may even be possible for a mortal to ascend to the status as a god with enough power, and oust the old rulers of the island.
Gods can be sealed, or with the right items, permanently killed by mortals essentially. But as a whole, praying to a deity can reap great rewards. Power and protection being one of them.
Creatures
A whole plethora of creatures are planned, but the main creatures that will be actively antagonistic towards the players are the pygmies. Pygmies will never attack gods, instead showing reverence towards them and providing them with prayer. (Mana)
Races
Four entirely unique custom races are planned to be added. So far, the other three races are still being fleshed out, at the moment the only current race to be certainly added would be the 'Pirates', keeping with the island like theme. Any ideas towards races is appreciated
Each race will have it's own 'Branch' that effects what units the race will have and what 'Conclusion' it could potentially end up with.
Pirates, for example, can choose from the 'Privateers Path' which results in a more 'official' and militaristic branch of units, 'Black Flags' which results in a number of shoddy but expendable greasy pirates, or 'Sorcerers of the Thule', which results in a variety of rogue sorcerer units becoming available.
Island Conclusions
A number of extremely expensive 'end game' events can be purchased providing enough resources are available depending on the race chosen or artifact/items acquired. Once purchased, these events essentially result in a massive potentially game ending boost to the player's power. These events are at the moment only for the mortal races, though Deity conclusions may be added in the future. An option to deactivate them will be added.
Conceived 'Conclusions' so far include.
Blackbeard's Arrival; resulting in a number of pirates spawning along the shore side, along with a very powerful hero, Black Beard.
- Four Unique Races
- A Prayer/Mana System for the gods
- A wide variety of unique events and terrain
Some other stuff about map
In addition to a huge number of events available to the gods that vary depending on the current power, the island will play host to random occurrences that could change the course of the game.
I've tried to make these events as bizarre and colourful as possible to suit the theme of the unpredictability and mystique of the island. Zombie apocalypse, long dead kings rising and evil artifacts possessing heroes are just a few of the planned ideas.
