plz help me with your irc chat thing

guys im having trouble using the chat feuture in this site. becuse wen i try to type i gotta repeatidly pound the key at least 10 times before it types the letter. is this becuse irc chat is for irc users? cuze i use tcp/ip
is this the problem?
if not and you you wut it is please tell me
