Setting the type to worker will make it run away if it is under attack. If it is a melee unit, just order it to hold position. Ranged, do what the last post said and set the Acquisition range to 0-100 depending on how close an enemy should be before it is attacked.
Acquisition range is also the limit for range, Teh-omg. If you have 9999 range and 100 Acquisition range, you have 100 range. Best way to do is is worker classification and Can Flee = False
