Is this bad Hard disk speed?

What make/model of hard disk is it? I am guessing it is mechanical?
Mechanical hard disks are always slow when it comes to random read/write. However usually they are still at least 1-2 MB/sec so this does seem really slow.
Possibly a buffering issue? Try 64 kb block size as 1MB blocks might be saturating the read/write buffers.
