Importing Icons N Models

Can anyone teach me how to import icons and models??

Checking the Skins and Models Forums would be wise. If you can't find in those, search in Tutorials...

also one thing the tutorial doesnt say is that you cant put the model on anything units before closing the map and reopening it.

Jeeez, you can. It only doesn't appear in any preview box and in world scene (it's invisible) and wouldn't show up till next 3d environment initialization (i think in some cases you even don't need to close the editor).
