To make an icon, start out by exporting any icon from the mpq files that come with Warcraft III by using Warcraft 3 Viewer or Wc3 Image Extractor II (go to the tool page on this site). Then you just customize the picture however you want (as long as it stays 64x64). Then just import it.

Here is how you do them in my way:
1) Start from scratch, never copy and paste... Be more original
2) Start out with lines, with a black background, and the line will be the basic color of your image(meaning color that is commonly seen)
3) Fill up the whole thing with Paint Bucket tool
4) Add details, like eyes, mouth and such with lines, of dark colors.
5) Fill them up with colors again.
6) Shade them with burn tool, burn especially the lines, with a 20% Midtones burn tool.
7) Dodge where the lights are, again, 20% Midtones
8) Add further details as you wish.
9) Smudge along the lines, making them blend in.
10) Save your work and convert.

And yes, this poll isn't needed, I don't see why you make a poll here.

Sopho even created starter templates. But I wonder why they put the "Copy-Paste" tool in IrfanView, because the only thing that it does is taking the part of the image, you can' t just insert a picture in another like PhotoShop. I need to use network connection between the 2 computers... Oh my god... Here we go again...

I do this if necessary:

Crop sections of an large picture and save them
Create a appropriate size for the sections of the picture in paint shop pro.
Open up the sections of the cropped picture.
Select one of them, copy, paste onto the large blank template (do it (the amount of cropped sections) times)
Try to attach them or customize them for a good image.
