i need help with a promotion system

ok so i want to make it when you compleate a quest, you reaseve a lumber, then you can exhange it for a promotion. now for the hard bit. what i want help with is when you purchass a item, E.g. promotion to comisar. your hero (it is also your ownly unit ever, so you can use the random unit owned by trigering player). is replaced with the other hero you promoted to.
