the warcraft editor is WAY more easier to use and it is just more fun.. i cant find out how to change a model - in WC3 it was just click on Model choose a model and there it is... WC3 editor FTW

but if u can tell me how to change models that would be great

well what im getting at is that the WC3 editor is a lot more easier to understand

its actually pritty terrible.

to change it the new way click the actor of the unit in the data editor, then change the model on the right.

(and why are actors linked to units via tokens, thats retarded)

exactly, there is too much to do to just change the model of the unit. in WC3 u just click one option then find a model and ur done this one has like 10 steps

guys, dont only see the negative sites :D

for me the editor is awesome. terrain editor is like 10 times better as in the WE, also the trigger editor has sooo much improvements, not only more possibilities, also some small fixes that make it much easier to write in GUI. and its a beta :P

Jayteh, that is incorrect.

As far as I can tell, tokens just let you modify a data slot easier. Eg changing a token from Marine to Ghost will change the model and everything (even unit referenced) on the data card to that of a ghost. Changing the token to "Super Marine" which could be a unit would result in a broken actor as their is no "Super Marine" model or sounds.

You actually change the unit which is attached to an actor via the events. Basically the events dictate which unit the actor goes to.

I don't really see what you gain from backwards referencing it, especially as it can only link to one unit at a time in its current state. a new unit with the exact same data with a different tooltip requires you to make a new actor instead of using the old one.

Why would actors benefit from this and nothing else, you can change them via triggers as well after all. it's not very consistent and adds another layer of wierdness.

I'm not trying to sound argumentative, I really want to understand why incase i'm missing something.

Why would you want multiple of the same units with just different tooltips in the first place?

What comes to mind for me is that you can change a units model/sound while in game. In War3, you used to have to replace an entire unit to change its model.

Anyways...I'm having some trouble.
Twice I've duplicated a unit (an SCV and an Immortal) and everything is linked properly (it has an actor and models), yet I can't place it on the terrain and it won't display the model. If I create it by triggers, the unit is there, however...it's invisible. No model, or way of selecting it (other than the idle workers thing D:)

halp plzz!

it sounds like a problem with the EVENTS part, check in there (although i dont know what you'd be looking for, but it allways seems to be the issue with missing models, compare to a working unit)

also guess it was a bad example, just thinking of some insiginficant change which would require a dupe for no reason, you can have the same weapon linked to multible units after all, i just dont see why actor isnt just another data box, it wouldnt alter your ability to change it on the fly and would keep it consistent with the rest of the editor

edit: PLEASE tell me why its an exception to the rest of the editor
