I advice you to work with 650*640 pixels, and look into the Navigator instrument in the photoshop, it will help you a lot

This is way too simple. And it looks more like a painting icon of some sort. Defs not fire. But I guess it could be useful.

The big image looks like fur, and it's a smudge orgy. Sure, smudge can be a useful tool, but may not be used THAT excessively.
The colours are meant to blend in, or have you seen fire with visually clearly detectable phases?
As far as I can remember, there's a tutorial for this here on THW. You might find it useful.
