Private messages instead of writing to everyone the same message separately on their profile.

Why would I do that? Because those people have friends and others who may see it on their profile. Thats how you saw it.
PLus, this is not ordinary contest, real money is involved.

Well, contests are announced on the top page's contests banner.
I just feel it kills all other messages posted before or around that time with just showing yours x times.
If one sees the message it doesn't mean the person is also interested. That's why it's better to send it directly to people who might be interested without needing to spam the latest profile posts panel.

But if one sees message that also does not mean that he is not interested. Maybe he will watch, maybe he will join. But he has opportunity to see. Its not spam when you post something related and important.
