The passives are one-time upgrades thst always stay with you. When he becomes a shaman you will gain 4 new combat abilities. You can switch any time between any combat ability when you are at a fire pit (for example you can have a Thrall that has Chain Lightning along with Gladiator abilities like Earthshatter or Raging Strike).

Similar. Yes. I havent yet determined how often you will encounter these fire pits or if you can change abilities at your own summoned fire pit. Nor have I determined if you can only switch within sets if abilities (like HotS) or if you can replace a Q ability with a W ability.
