We'll, my models only deal with a very specific, but common case. What is the issue in the last thread you linked?

Well, take a look at the pictures, difference between how the grass model looks during the night and during the day. The light over it doesn't look good.
There are some comments after that.

Ah, not sure I have a solution to that. The problem is that either has no shading, or it shades itself i a ugly way.

Hmm, how could I fix that? Any ideas?

Used a differently shaped mesh would be my approach. It is the start shape that makes it look weird when it is shaded.

Alternatively, give it an 'night-time' animation, that tints it darker during the night.

So, I could change texture colours/hues in the animation of Magos somehow or trigger a material to be replaced?

Geoset Animations allow you to change a model's tinging color. So starting it a white and make it darker. Would probably use four animations, a day animation, a night animation, and two transition animations. The color animation should look something like this:
0: { 1, 1, 1 }
200: { 0.4, 0.4, 0.4 }
