So I suppose our well respected tyrant and campaign maker will not advise us in this tricky matter?

I am done with everything WarCraft & WarCraft modding.

I will not use any of my time with anything related to either so please stop tagging or asking me about such things. Thank you.

It depends on the end objective martially. And the semantics and politics of what makes up each faction. But in general 1 grand unit will grind out a battle and out-massacre the enemy. And a motley crew of randoms will have 1 or 2 surprising locations where they'll start winning and gain momentum from that spot. So either the waves wear down your motley crew or a snowball will start rolling towards your grand army.

If the battle is over when all/any enemy generals are killed. Example Game of thrones. Renly Baratheon held the alliance of storm's End(yellow stag) and the Reach(rose of thorns) together through marriage being the only thing connecting them.
But unlike Eddard Stark ?(white wolf) and Robert Baratheon who had been childhood friends and wards under Jon Arryn(white eagle) of the Vale. Which had been tested for some years so in order to win that battle. You would have to kill only Renly or all three Robert, Eddard and Jon Arryn. Since cutting only 1 or 2 heads might demoralize but not break their chain of command.

But take England as an example, Scotland and France have been allied for a very long time. The Auld Alliance would even be refreshed for over 500 years without even considering whether either country was already at war with england at the time. Until the last Stuart joined the English under Scottish rule this alliance stood fast. The main strength of the Scottish French alliance was the ability to do a two pronged attack which would make it impossible to save up some reinforcement due to the area's of actual combat being very far apart. Even though at the time the English military was better trained and equipped and had bigger number than the french and Scots combined. It was often forced in a stalemate at heavy cost however. So in this case losing the ally in the South or North would basically mean you'd lose. And holding out with a minimum defense on the north or south and a Massive offensive on the South or North would be the winning strategies.
