I'm running a Chapman ML3 Modern into a Focusrite Scarlett 2i2 2nd gen through a plugin called Spark by Mercuriall. It emulates a few Marshall amps, and quite well I must say. I applied some basic EQ to the guitar tracks (high pass, low pass). I'm fairly new to the electric and to messing with plugins, I've played the acoustic for a long time before buying the Chapman and I'm trying to learn as much as I can about music production. :D

What do you play? I've looked up your guitar brand but you didn't mention a specific model.

I didn't mention a specific model because I have no idea what it is xD

I bought this guitar second hand for $80 and I have no idea what it really is, nor do I care. As long as it has working electronics I can record metal on it, even with this insane open G tuning.

Your tone's pretty good for someone who just started messing with it, though, looks like you already know what you're doing.

BTW are you up for a challenge, from tomorrow, until 31st? If you really want to make something, I can make a challenge in the challenge section, and we can make some shit before the new contest starts.

Sure thing! My well of ideas has run dry really fast during this contest and it shows in my entry but perhaps a new topic will be more fruitful.

Can you suggest a new topic then?

I'll have to think about it. So, you play in an open tuning, huh? What inspired you to do so? Also, do you like Devin Townsend?
HappyTauren
HappyTauren
Well, Devin Townsend inspired me to compose in the grandiose way that I do, and also to use open G xD

I also learned to mix major and minor from him.

Awesome! I've never tried playing in an open tuning on the electric. I'm gonna give it a go one of these days. Maybe learning one of Dev's songs is a good opportunity to do it. I've only played in open on acoustic with a slide, haha :D ''grandpa guitar''

It's really awesome, lets you ring out those major/minor chords really nicely in any position. Also, four string power chords are really easy to do in every position as well. Dev abuses all of this shit btw, and I am trying to as well xD But mostly I like open G because it gives me a plenty of high notes, while also giving me reeeeaally deep stuff with the lowest G note. You can hear it it in my entry, anyways.

I've been thinking, we could cover each other's contest entries for a challenge.

Basically the idea is that it's a loose cover - we use some elements of each others' entries and compose the rest of the track how we see fit.

Judgement criteria would not be how good of a 'cover' it is, but rather how well it is executed.

That would be nice. It have thought of something similar for a contest here..something like a chord progression or motif that everyone would be free to interpret using any genre they want. I think it would be really interesting to hear all those variations on the same musical idea rather than a non-musical topic up for interpretation.

That's why I liked the Canon idea, it's close to what I had in mind.

The problem with the idea of using one motif is that somebody would have to create and define a specific motif. It would have to be something really neutral.

I composed this piece some time ago with that idea in mind.

The idea was to abuse the hell out of this motif in multiple settings.

Sounds like a soundtrack for a video game, i like it. Yes, we would have to find a neutral motif.

Yay! Alright so, from tomorrow until the 31st?
HappyTauren
HappyTauren
Yeah. Or basically, you can start now, then until the end of 31st, as far as I care. We'll deal with the specifics as judges are appointed. The challenge isn't yet approved, but it will be, so let's say the rules say the deadline is 31st (even if for some reason this starts in a few days "officially").

For now just say in the thread that you accept the challenge or something xD

Exciting! Feels good to be back doing stuff on this website. Looks like I need to start dissecting your entry :D
