while there have been soldiers of all sorts in Italy during the middle ages, I really struggle to find one single military unit or uniform from that time that is typical enough to let the observer undoubtedly conclude “hey that's italian!”
the term condottiero defines a warband leader, often of mercenary kind.
It's more a commanding officer position than any specific kind of combat unit.
a bit like "sergeant" or "captain".
dude, that's interesting. Italian medieval soldiers don't need to look different from militiamen without plate armor. there's plenty of models for this kind of human combat units already. By heart, i recall kitabatake, wandering soul, direfury and eubz have made a lot of medieval militarymen that don' look particularly heavily armored, but there are surely tons more models like that. There's also the villager + attachments option to customize a medieval soldier (with paladinjst's mounted villager it can work for cavalry too)
