Farmer Sylas' farm is an example of a large area that includes many optional quests. It is possible to completely ignore this area and complete the game, but it offers a lot if you want to pursue it's side quests. There are small quests, like relaying a message. And big quests, like finding a secret passage under the barn and investigating. There is even a mysterious murder and boss fight. All of which are secondary to the main quest line, but are still in your best interest to explore because they add depth and entertainment to the overall game experience.
