Once I finally got the goldmine I was relieved, I was forced to reload many times because I kept running out of gold and my armies kept being destroyed. So I ended up doing something else that took a lot more time. Arcane towers plus buffs on Shadow Stalkers, there were a lot of towers with arcane sentry and of course the shades! The damn things were everywhere but eventually I poked orange's outer defenses to death and was able to crush their base.

I can imagine that Necromancers were pretty useful for this particular mission.
