I think this thing about terrain deformation is a a myth, unless you are using local terrain deformation.
Many years ago i tested with a friend, he has the highest wc3 display options and me the lowest, we had the same values.

However we had the same OS, windows XP, but maybe it returns different value with a different OS.
But i would say that is the native GetLocationZ by itself, with or without terrain deformations.

In the case of close proximity ripples, won't this cause an anomaly?

Those are? Deformations would have to be stored and included of course.

@Troll-Brain: Temporary deformations are not visible unless the player has sight there. GetLocationZ considers the local player's sight. Also, you need to have somehow visited that place earlier with your camera for the deformation to be rendered.
