Graphics cards tend to be compatible with almost any computer, within reason (a GTX 480 isn't gunna run on a Thinkpad). Apparently, you've got DX11, Windows 7 Ultimate x86, a Triple-Core Processor with 2.3GHz, 2GB of RAM, and a 1680x1050 monitor. I'd say you'll be fine.

Also, just lurking through your data, you also have...
A Logitech Wireless USB Mouse, you use a Realtek HD Sound Card, use Realtek speakers, have a ROCCAT Kave Headset, have a SATA 500GB drive, which only has 116GB left by the way, and your current graphics card is an ATI Radeon 2100. That's not much of a good card... It's decent at best. If possible, try making it so that when you install the new card, the computer does NOT disable your 2100. You could probably have it render separate things; perhaps even a small second monitor.

So, you should be cleared for the upgrade, but you should also delete the post with your DxDiag file, because people can literally find anything about your computer they want, right through that small, 35.9KB file. You shouldn't freely upload that kind of thing; it's quite a security issue.

Ummmm

Hero, your an idiot, YOU DIDN'T FACTOR IN POWER CONSUMPTION >.<

Krachn, before you go a step further, you have to make sure your computer can also handle the physical size of the card, as well as power requirements.

So, Krachn, open your computer, look for a large greyish box near the top back, and look for a large label on it, and find the Watt rating, if it's below around 500 watts, you have to buy a new one. This list gives good brands and models: http://www.eggxpert.com/forums/thread/323050.aspx

If your PSU has the proper wattage to handle a HD5870, you need to check if it has 2 6pin PSU connectors, should look similar to this If it does not, you need a new PSU anyways.

Next you have to check if you can physically fit the card into your computer. Take a 12 inch ruler and try to stick it in back to front from where your PCI-E slot is, if the entire ruler doesn't fit, your screwed, need a new case at that point XD

It's a damn 11 inch card, and give another inch for the 6pin's to fit in, You MIGHT be able to squeeze in with 11.5 inches of room, but it would be tight.

So shame on you Hero, for giving someone incomplete advice, and just as a BTW, dxdiag info cannot be used to find anything like that.

Just curious, what does His monitors Resolution, his amount of RAM, Processor speed, etc. have to do with whether or not he'll be able to fit an HD5870 into his computer? You're an idiot, Hero. He should be looking at whether or not he'll be able to physically fit an 11.5" card into his case, as well as his Power Supply wattage.

Yeah, sorry. I skipped over the size and the power supply, and that's my fault.

His resolution is one of the main things in his dxdiag file. I forget the height? but it was a 1080p monitor.

Yeah yeah, whatever. And actually, that does have to do with the graphics card. Some cards actually have limitations on their max resolutions. For example, mine won't do above a 1280x1024 resolution. Although, it should be noted that his card most likely supports his resolution, because it looks to be a damned good card.

I think all this sea water is getting to my head.

No you idiot, thats your monitor. Even my Imagine 128 from 1995 can do 1600x1200.

Also, an HD5870's max resolution is 7680x3200 or 5120x4800, but that can only be done with 6 monitors, it's single monitor max is 2560x1600, and currently, no monitor exceeds that.

Get out of this section boy, before I have to get my belt off.

No, I've hooked it up to my Mom's monitor, it still only shows the max res as being 1280x1024. Her monitor's max res is 1920x1080, so it's not the monitor.

Do note how I agreed it's a badass card and it's max resolution should EASILY fit within with the OP's monitor.

Well, maybe it's just something with Linux. Or my machine in general. I'm not sure, but whatever. It is what it is. It's not like my monitor is above that; that's exactly my monitor's max.

If you have installed monitor drivers (yes I am not joking, these do exist apparently) it might be forcing the output to constantly think that it is at that resolution.

Additionally go to your nvidia control panel and change the resolution there. If it does not appear on the list simply add the resolutions via their extender. With the right fidgeting you can even get it to make up resolutions, like I have an imaginary 2000*2000 resolution I took some screenshots at.

Well man, it's old, whaddya expect. Still works for me fine though, no reason to upgrade.

WHAT! No reason to upgrade?
Think of the gaming experience!
Think of the full screen movies!
Most of all, think of the full screen lesbian porn you're missing out on!

EDIT: By the way, did anyone get what Motherboard he had and whether it was compatible with the graphics card he wanted to get?
(Probably pci-e 2.0 x16)

Gaming experience? The best I do is WoW on this machine, until Sc2 comes out. I might get a better monitor for my primary (and dualscreen) if I can find one for the right price.
I don't watch movies on my computer. That's what my PS3/blu-ray player is for.
As for the last... Ehh.... Yeah that might make me get a new monitor lol xD
