How to create Lightning Effect in the air?

I do not see any option for how to do this and Google has offered no results, but I have seen other spells that have done this before.

I have tried making one of the points of a lightning effect be a dummy flying unit, but the lightning effect still spawns on the ground underneath the flying unit instead of in the air. All I want is a lightning effect that shows up in the air and hits the ground with the other end of it.

You need Jass/Custom script the native function AddLightningEx allows to specify z1,z2.

native AddLightningEx takes string codeName, boolean checkVisibility, real x1, real y1, real z1, real x2, real y2, real z2 returns lightning

You mean something like this: Lightning Strike

You need two Dummy units.

One really high in the air and the other under the ground.
Then you create a Lightning effect that goes from the flying unit to the ground unit.
