Thinking about it...
What the Hive could just do is come up with a way to run a mobile version of the site in an iframe within a java application. And through that, you can make buttons for each section of functionality you want to give... Say buttons for News, Forums, Chat, Resources.
And all will run in individual iframes...
I think facebook does this... Or they used to?
If you look at mobile.facebook.com it is exactly the same as the app... But I could always be wrong.

for instance SFML is C++ library and is capable of running under android Also Objective-C I think runs on mobiles too
