3D Printing Supreme Commander (and Wc3)

Hey everyone,

I printed the Cybran T2 Salem class ship from Supreme commander a few months back and thought I'd share it with you.

It's been kicking around for awhile and many of the smaller parts like antenna have broken off, but that something that could definitely be fixed.

The legs snap off every time I take it somewhere, thanks gas powered for basically no geometry connecting them to the base whatsoever. (obviously not designed with 3DP in mind.) alas something that could easily be fixed.

I haven't gotten around to fixing those issues due to the fact that I already went through about 8 versions before it came out of the machine correctly.

It takes 16 hours to print on a Maker bot Replicator 2.

I've printed things directly from wc3 and from the model section here on Hive, I really want to print out Sc2 Models, but I cant get them to import correctly, anyone know how? [3DS max]

Surely the art tools would work for SC2? Or are those only for publishing (I remember a complaint about that a while ago).

What about indirect porting? I mean I think people made exporters for other model formats which could be used as an intermediate. Maybe ask GhostWolf and people who understand the SC2 model format, they may be able to help get the important pieces (things like animations are less important as it is a static model.

Surely there should be a DRC (design rules check) to make sure a model can actually be printed? This is what integrated circuits and circuit boards use. The DRC restrictions are based on the technology being used for fabrication.

You may also want to look into Diablo III for some models as well. Some of the monsters and character pieces look pretty awesome.

There is some already, in any case he wants some of SC2 units. You can always buy a 3D printer and make your own, they are getting cheaper by the year.
