Hive Journey 5 - Crisis at the Sunwell 2.0; by Forsaken - Horselord12 started the project

Today I played an awesome Map
It was straightforward and no crap
It keeps you playing quite alot
The time while playing I forgot

This is a map that was put together before, recently released by Forsaken after clearing all issues it probably had.

First Impression

I start the game and get a cinematic, after that I choose a hero. 10 Heroes. They all look awesome. And look! There are Characters from Rise of the Bloodelves. So shiny. I like the skins. Either way I choose the Demon Hunter as this character fits the quest you got: Defeat Kil'jaeden.

It was a good choice I gotta tell you. I went solo on this map and the demon hunter can swarm the enemy with hellhounds using a portal. Also his Manaburn is perfect against almost all enemies and very useful to defeat the harder bosses here.

I died in the first minute forgetting to summon my 2 Watchdogs as distraction. My bad.

Quite a few Items I gather rather quickly, the Level Ups come quickly killing bosses. Soon I reach the cap of 18. This doesn't feel all too good but the book-drop and the money keeps you progressing (buying statbooks).

The fights are exciting up to a certain point, but this point is to blame on me for playing alone. Playing co-op would probably be twice as fun. Alone the fights just begin to take too long.

Gameplay

The Gameplay is simple. You're a hero, you gotta defeat the great evil, fight your way through to him and do it. The execution of that is flawless, no distraction straight up action. You follow the road, you kill demons and opposing elves you get Items exceptionaly good ones from bosses that even help to solo it.

It kept me playing for I was motivated to see the end, the enemies don't take too long to die allthough with some enemies you just feel that this was supposed to be played by multiple players.

You run around and have to be smart about your skills.

For playing this alone can get annoying because of the need to rest it is actually useful to die as you always come back with full health and 1/3 of your mana. As soon as you excounter a manawell inside the castle you can stop dying and instead use your skills to protect yourself. Mana is around the corner now.

I can imagine this being waaaay more fun with a group of 3 people and I acknowledge that, It is a perfect map to download and play for any group. No story means no waiting and the difficulty will have you learn to support each other.

There was no mistake made with the gameplay. I can imagine people playing this and then make their own version and this map would be a good basic example of how to do it.

Story

Though the Introduction is nice but could be improved there was no intention of including a story. Its abscence is therefore justified.

Graphics

The units on the enemyside are beautiful. A shame they want to kill me, now I have to kill them.

The Hero skins are awesome and the first eyecatcher you'll experience. You also will find your favorite hero of the 10, just choose the one that looks most awesome/interesting to you.

There are also some nice graphical effects but they could be so much better. I think if more time was spent into the looks of this map it could really get intimidating and the atmosphere would be improved. Nothing bad but so much unused potential.

I also suggest some more evil-looking enemies, most of the time i don't feel like I'm fighting THE DEMON GOD.

Better effects (like a meteor spawning fire and releasing a bunch of demons or just some horrible nightmare-ish creeps) would appeal to a bigger audience. Myself is satisfied as it was about the challange not the looks.

Discovery

Sadly nothing to discover. Searching secret passages to find treasure won't do you any good. This is not this kind of RPG.

Quests

You got only your one longterm quest. You won't find any new ones and you can't finish any sidequests. Might throw off some people, but shouldn't you be hunting THE DEMON GOD anyway?

Layout

The Castle is put together nicely. Didn't find any flat empty space, the Enemies don't swarm you from all sides as they are devided. If the enemies were put little closer together or the roads would be less open it would've been annoying but this didn't happen and so this is one strong point of this map.

The Layout will not leave you confused or corner you. The Map is in these terms exactly how it should be for the way this map is played.

In terms of Terrain there's nothing bad to be said. Nothing really threw me off, didn't notice anything wrong with it. Looks very nice.

Items

Don't expect a whole bunch of new and exciting Items but expect helpful ones. The Items really help if used right, there were almost no items I did have no use for. The Bosses usualy leave some special Item behind which usually is very satisfying.

In terms of Item-Spread everythings allright. Only the experience books you find with the last bosses are completely useless as you have reached max-level at this point.

The Items also increase your power and your options efficiently and to the right amount. You're not overpowered with them but they keep you strong enough to face the challange.

Bugs

No Bugs.

Final Thoughts

Honestly, this is the kind of map I was missing when I first began searching for WC3-Mods. A simple and straightforward well-executed map where you level up and defeat some big dude.

If you were to improve your map I'd suggest you put in different more exciting music. The Scenario suggests that you have to strike Kil'Jaeden down to save the world. Some epic music would definitly help to get that atmosphere.

It would be nice if your people didn't come out to fight only once on any occasion. It would just feel right when they threw all they got at Kil'Jaeden to ensure the safety of the world.

This Scenario is very nice, has very big potential which is not entirely wasted but partly it is, and it is not because of lack of skins or items, it's because whenever you encounter enemies there could happen something. What I mean is that an empty hallway where a demon gate appears is much more effective than having the enemies stand around. The demons are known for using those gates. It would feel right to me.

Nothing new about it overall but a very good example of a good basic map and a very good map to play and have fun. Especially for co-op.
