Post ideas for the next MMC. I think we should start a few weeks after the results for MMC10 are in.

Edit: ideas so far
Peaceful - Make a map with no combat. E.g. a map about fishing or crafting.
puzzle/exploration/crafting - speaks for itself
Deadline - do quests/riddles before time runs out, bit of survival but with breaks in between. Also it could be some high scores breaking type.
Creation - Literally warp into existence something and make it evolve or anything among those lines.
Capture - Either it be a deadly fish or getting your apple back this can be the idea to capture anything or anyone that was stolen from you, lost or just want so bad~.
Treasure Hunting - Use anything from geological excavating to even raiding your way through temples and shipwrecks to obtain riches and glory.
Thief - Steal stuffs from people requires stealth!
Organization - organize/grow something to make it better until certain goal condition has met (e.g. building (growing) civilization / kingdom / company / industry / anything)

Well how about a puzzle/exploration type of contest theme? - speaks for itself.

- yeah the puzzle one was already done but it was a long time ago -
That would also fit into a exploration type theme.

Deadline - do quests/riddles before time runs out, bit of survival but with breaks in between.

Creation - Literally warp into existence something and make it evolve or anything among those lines.

^ All of the ideas mentioned so far sound pretty good, but I think capture sounds the most unique from all of the previous contest themes. Then maybe even people who like to stick to the traditional RTS style of Warcraft can come up with some interesting zone capturing.

Treasure Hunting:
Use anything from geological excavating to even raiding your way through temples and shipwrecks to obtain riches and glory.

Thief - Steal stuffs from people requires stealth!
Those are too specific imo, no clear idea variations.

I suggest

Organization - organize/grow something to make it better until certain goal condition has met (e.g. building (growing) civilization / kingdom / company / industry / anything)

Apparition - Basically it would be like ghost sightings appearing throughout the map. You will be chasing them constantly unless you want a sudden death by 'darkness' (could be called corruption).

Every time you approach one (they'll be moving constantly, faster after you approach them and slower after they've reached a certain distance from you) you start hearing voices, these are getting louder and clearer until you reach the last apparition when everything goes white (white-screen).

You'll discover that you were having a dream through which a demon/devil tried to posses you. He'll die after you wake up.

---------
Not sure if it was done before.

Thoughts?

I'm keen to start this soon. We just need a deciding vote between treasure hunting and production.

Who's joining? When's a good time to start for everyone?

Treasure hunting is cool and all, but remember its going to result in people submitting dungeon crawl maps.
Even the farming contest had a dungeon crawl entry.

It would be good to have a Theme judging category worth a hefty amount of points to drastically drop the scores of anyone who breaks too far away from the theme.

We also had the problem of a final version of a map being updated after the deadline due to being in the map section. There should be a rule that final versions of maps are required to be uploaded to the contest thread.

And the brainstorming poll is heating up!

In light of the rules/judging suggestions, here's a mockup of a possible new ruleset:

Originality/Creativity
Does the map offer interesting and new ideas, mechanics or other aspects?
10
Theme
How well does the map follow the chosen theme?
30
Aesthetics
Is the map pleasing to look at? Are models and textures chosen well to fit together?
Includes terrain, imports chosen, custom art made for the map, visual design, etc.
20
Gameplay
Is it fun or engaging?
Includes design of abilities, characters, balance, replayability (if applicable), and storyline for story-driven maps.
20
Triggers/Code/Performance
How well is the map coded?
Includes errors, bugs, performance issues.
10
Polish
General polish all-round the map. e.g. abilities have hotkeys, all units have icons, custom interface changes have a custom tooltip.
10

Please comment, suggest changes, criticise or support if you think it's good.

I feel the previous judging criteria had a great deal of overlap, so some entries would be penalised for the same design decisions or faults in more than on category. It's become very common for well-polished maps to score highly, since scoring for polish was justifiable in almost all of the judging criteria.

The theme mark would be based on how well the map embodies the contest's theme. I agree it's a little tricky for something as vague as Map Size Limited, but a theme like Treasure Hunting is specific enough for it to matter.

Much like several other judging criteria, it's all up to the judge's opinion.

Anyway, looks like it's going to be Treasure Hunting. I'll make the thread in a week or so, with the intention to start the contest on the first of May. Please post if you're happy with that date or if not, suggest another. Some more opinions on the suggested judging criteria would be great also.

Let's see if there is going to be good gameplay variation other than collecting chests or boxes. :)
