how to create timer that goes forward

Make periodic tirgger that fires "Every X.YZ of game time". Use real or integer variable that you increment each time the trigger fires.

Something like this:

    Every 1.00 second of game time
Conditions
Actions
    Set time_var = time_var + 1.00

Refer to time_var when you need that time.
