Seriously, is it? Is Starcraft II going to take it over? Will DotA get in the way of all the GOOD games? Will those SotDRP fanatics mess up roleplaying for RARP fans? Is Warcraft going to hell? Why am I asking these questions? Do you even care? Of course you don't. But your going to help me answer them anyway! So yeah, post your answers and we'll discuss them and stuff.
 
It won't live for much longer, HT. Warcraft III is becoming outdated by the minute. Starcraft II will blow us away, and the only Warcraft games that will be popular is the hideous World of Warcraft. Unless, by chance, a miracle occurs where Blizzard decides to cancel the MMO and make Warcraft IV, we won't be up for much longer.

Oh yeah, and what threads are you talking about?
 
DotA STILL does. For me, 50-75% of the games I see are DotA. And yeah, Starcraft II's awesome graphics engine will obliderate Warcraft III's old, outdated, and pathetic one, as I had said before.

Not necessarily. There could be custom Starcraft II maps only days after it comes out, you never know.
 
if SC II wouldn't have heroes some people would still prefer War3 when playing custom maps. But if SCII has a much better editor and you can do alot of fun things with it then i dunno. Maybe they will be equal, remind you that SCII only has better graphics than warcraft 3
 
Actually SC2's editor has the Hero thing the only thing questionalbe to the Editor is does it have items.And yea were going to hell.Although the custom models will be very rare becouse of the SCII awesome engeine.Adn i hear that there will be a DotA for SCII not sure about that thou.
 
Oh yeah, I read about that somewhere. They're also having a Tauren Marine! But yeah, DotA for SCII will eat it up as well. I hope those buttholes don't make it to SCII.
 
It was meant as a partially serious-partially humorous series of questions. "Do you even care? Of course you don't" comes from a funny flash about Starcraft with Family Guy-like animation that I saw on Newgrounds. I usually use references from Spongebob with my friends, because we've all seen plenty of episodes at least once, but not today... (Patrick reference). And Hakeem, I just wanted to let you know... THAT WAS FUUUUUUUUN-EH!

WC3 managed to survive WoW, so I really don't see it being a problem. And ScII is hot shit now, but hey, remember how much everyone liked WoW before it got released? The majority of people went back to Wc3 from the latest Blizzard title, so meh.

And to me they're 2 different games. It's like saying that 'WC3's graphics blew Diablo right out of the water!'

I don't play a game for graphics. Anyone who does is a tool. I play games because I like them, not because it has newer graphics.

Damn straight. And brad, I do that too, but let's face it... I don't play melee. I only played it like once or twice, three times at most. Custom games>melee games.

About graphics: I too don't play a game just for graphics. I still have my copy (well, my dad's copy) of Age of Empires 2. I have Unreal Tournament, which came out in 1999. I am a big fan of Dwarf Fortress, but I need to learn how to farm and make beer.

ScII isn't going to be released until Q4 2009, so I think it has just a TAD longer than a 'few months left in it'.

The game will keep going many, many, many years after ScII comes out.

Based on a poll, it seems half of the people like Starcraft as much as they like Warcraft. It's true that they are both strategy games, but SC does not contain any RPG elements, not to mention the lore is totally different.
I don't know how it is possible to like SC so much as Warcraft, but that's the community's call.

Warcraft III managed to survive WoW, yes, but I don't think that much people turned back to Warcraft III. More than half of my friend-list became inactive because of WoW.
Not to mention that World of Warcraft still succeeded to take half of the players of Warcraft III. I seriously don't understand how can someone be obsessed with a game that has no purposes but to level a hero and kill creeps. It's just a sad way of living to be honest.

I don't believe Warcraft III is surviving another blow, especially when the next slice shares the same face. Starcraft II is a strategy game and will most likely be enough to at least take down another part of the community.
I've been talking to my friends and they appear to be excited about Starcraft, so yeah, that'll be it for Wc3.
I guess we always have to close the chapters sometime...
 
But it would be a change for the better, I think. Starcraft was always a cool game, no matter what. The races are just awesome, and the second game will really shatter Warcraft III, I say. I saw the features of the game from videos of the convention, and, it's COOL. I can't wait to play with the Tauren Marines... or the Ghosts! Oh yeah. But sadly, as our Moderator has pointed out, Warcraft III's going to be ripped apart. Hopefully Blizzard will come to its senses and release a Warcraft IV.
 
It's the World Editor's fault that Warcraft III is still alive! After the release of World of Warcraft it knock Warcraft III down. Warcraft III has been crawling ever since... This time Warcraft III stands for new threat... The Starcraft II's Scum Editor. Starcraft II's Scum Editor will be a lot more versatile and will feature a lot more. I believe that almost all map makers who aren't stubborn will move to Starcraft II and test its Scum Editor. It'll probably let Warcraft III to dying.
 
Consider this: The thing that will hold Warcraft 3 up after Starcraft's release will be DotA. Probably at least half the games on BNet (US servers) are DotA. When Starcraft 2 comes out the non-DotA players will almost all buy it. The DotA players, however, may not all jump ship. They will go on playing DotA because that's the game they like. There was a poll on dota-allstars.com that showed a surprising number of DotA players bought WC3 just for that map after their friends recommended it. Their continued presence on BNet will allow for other games to keep popping up while the bulk of Warcraft 3 players are busy playing and working on new SC3 custom maps.

It is sad, but i believe SCII will be one blow to much for WCIII. Only the most hardcore Warcraft III lovers will stay behind and try to finish their projects, but because of the lack of help, all these projects will die. Soon after, Warcraft III modding will shut down, and the game is dead :ugly:. It it is soon reanimated by DotA players who like to fun around with corpses. In the end, the only thing that will stay behind is a bunch of DotA-lovers. This is a sad thing, but all games come to this point. We now need to be pacient, and wait for Warcraft IV. And pray Blizzard doesn't kill all main characters with new World of Warcraft expansions.
 
I don't believe they'll actually create Warcraft IV. They are currently developing Wrath of the Lich King.

Perhaps they'll try to keep Warcraft III alive for a year but we all know that it won't last long because Starcraft II has a much much more powerful editor. The new DoTA map will probably lure most of them over if they aren't stubborn.

Also it isn't fun to play a game if almost no skilled map makers are left.

I don't see why there's all the hate for WoW. If you're a person who will sit there grinding mobs until level 70 then you need some help. The game has more to that. Some people who once hated me are now friends with me due to WoW. My Dad plays for fun, along with his brother who is sometimes out in Afghanistan. I find 3 main reasons for playing any game for too long.

1: For fun
2: For/With friends
3: To drown sorrows (Yes, that usually helps due to the simulation taking your mind away from alot of things)

Oh, WARCRAFT FOUR WILL NOT HAPPEN!

I just use my computer(do random stuff) just to drown sorrows..
I know World of Warcraft has more. That is probably why 30-40% of all the players are addicted.
 
Starcraft 2 will prolly have a much more enjoyable melee than wc3. And it will be real battles, like in Starcraft 1. Wc3 is some tribe wars, Starcraft is WAR.

But one thing will happen for sure. Many former WC3 mapmakers will want to quickly find a place on the custom game list, aiming for their own DotA in SC2. Lal, some plan it already. But that's good, mapping will be lively since the very begining, so nothing like DotA in WC3 should happen. Unless Blizzard supports them, or DotA geeks organise themselves for an invasion on SC2 ;)
 
It's only natural that the player base of Warcraft III takes a hit. But what kind of hit and will it matter to you? Well, it depends on the maps you play, perhaps if you're like me and a LOTR fan. There will still be people who remain here, or perhaps not. So a large amount of players will leave, but it may be people who don't really care.

I know personally I'll play both, with Warhammer Online.
 
Just because the Starcraft II site is up and it has info doesn't mean that it is done. There are still ages before it comes out. So we will find out, in a year or so probably.

There are still wc3ers. I personally love Medieval stuff but I feel I have to move to Sc2 and it looks pretty sweet, so it will take over for some people but not for others.

Anyways... Warcraft III melee will be torn apart by Starcraft II. There are MANY RPG "choose your destiny" (ROFL MORTAL KOMBAT LOOOOOOOOL) type things in the single player that WILL ROCK FACE. So I doubt there won't be THAT many Starcraft games on battle.net. I know that's what I'm going to do. And thank god for Blizzard's knack of delaying release dates... this gives me time to gain enough money to buy it myself from babysitting my lil' niece (YEAH, I BABYSIT. But I babysit and play HALO 3! ZOOOOOOOOOOOOOMG!!!!!)

you know the original starcraft mapping community is still alive and at one point I was part of that..

(I converted the WC2 deathknight sprite into teh Starcraft, but teh colors messed up and shit :P)
 
I know that full and well, wugiboy. Although I have a strange feeling they're quiting, seeing as Starcraft II is coming out and all. MODDB (or MODB, I forgot) has quite some Starcraft projects on their, but the only successful one I know of is Life of a Marine.

It IS an RTS, but people just like Aeons of Strifes better than Real Time Strategies... which is weird, because most Aeons of Strifes suck. DotA, for example, is the bottom of the food chain. The best Aeon of Strife I played was... well, I forgot the name, but it had AWESOME triggered abilities, with a cool hero selection system, and the tileset was Northrend or Icecrown.
 
What, a computer not being able to handle SC2? WoW is a much bigger game and yet the requirement for near-flawless gameplay is 512mb of ram... What makes you think SC2 will require more than that? Also, I think Blizzard would pay attention to factors like this, as the more computers that handle it, the more sales they will make. Blizzard are money grabbing so and so's ^^
 
Yeah, it was Advent of the Zenith. And Brad, I disagree. The requirements will be MORE than when Warcraft III came out. Warcraft III's engine is disgusting. If you've seen the ingame movies, you'll notice that the models themselves are high-quality and are nice to look at, unlike the ones in Warcraft.
